The best fingerprint reader ONLY IF you read this first.
- If your computer has both USB 2.0 ports (normally black looking in plug-in) and USB 3.0 (normally blue looking in plug-in), plug your mouse and keyboard plugged into the USB 2.0 ports. This is because they are live before the operating system loads. If you have another 2.0 port, you can plug this device into it as well to save your USB 3.0 ports for devices such as backup drives, video, etc. since USB 3.0 can run at 10x the speed.- Windows & Microsoft does not have the drivers for this device. There are two major device branches, normal HID and with WFB.a. Normal HID - The normal HID driver is often used by software applications such as time clock software and has an appropriate API for that use. For this you are looking for a driver with a name like "64bit UareU 4500 Driver.zip" Notice, no WFB in the name.b. WFB - The WFB driver is what you must use if you are trying to use it for Windows Hello such as for logging into your PC and for 2FA as used by many services and password managers, so you don't have to frog around with verification text messages and emails. For this you need a driver with name such as "DigitalPersona 4500 WBF driver 5.0.0.5". If it doesn't have WFB in the name it is the HID driver. I would like to post the link sources but that is not allowed. You can search for "DigitalPersona 4500 Windows Hello Drivers (x64, Win10) needed", but beware they are discussing both there. WFB is the one you want if Windows Hello is what you want.- The driver install will require a system restart for obvious security reasons. I will not go into the Windows Hello setup as that is documented elsewhere. What I will say is this is a high-quality reader, has some weight to it, doesn't move on surfaces, and has a rubbery surface and you need to press on to get it to read, nothing like your laptop or cell phone. It is also much more reliable and consistent during the registration process.Other:- I proved this out on a Dell Inspiron 3847 Mini Tower (11 years old) that I upgraded to Windows 11 Pro using an alternate install. If it will work on that, it will work on anything.PS: Don't worry about me. I made sure I picked up another one before I wrote this and the price goes up.

Good value for the money. Great for window hello.
Honestly I was surprised. This little thumb thing works really well. Very responsive with windows hello. Plugs and play super easy to use.

LMDE
Took it out of the box and had it and installed using Linux Mint Debian Edition (LMDE 6 'Faye') in about five minutes after installing. I purchased it specifically to use with Linux.

Perfect condition
Our software interfaces with the URU 4500 and we were in a pinch. Units arrived next day via prime in pristine condition. All of them worked on Windows 7 and Windows 10. (important to note that our software manages the control interface, not windows. Other claims of only working on 7 may be accurate).

Only marginally useful
The unit works okay but not great. It often has difficulty reading fingerprints and the lack of software is a major fault. I was able to locate an old version, 4.01, of the Digital Persona Personal software from [...] however it really only works for windows login. The software is meant for an HP system so it cannot be updated/upgraded. You can manually add a login but the software has difficulty recognizing a number of sites and has difficulty with which fields should be used.
