desertcart.com: Empire of Gold: A Novel (Nina Wilde and Eddie Chase): 9780553593655: McDermott, Andy: Books Review: Another rip roaring yarn - Great adventure thriller as always mixed with archeology and cliffhanger sections. I really enjoy this writer and series. On the next chapter. Review: Enjoyed the story - This is the same formula as all the other books, but still enjoyable. Another "myth" or "legend" that our good guys go looking for, only to be stalled by bad guys looking for the same thing. Lots of shooting and killing, including some of the good guys (or red shirts as they are called in some other genres). I did not like the ending, though. All along I have felt that Nina has a fairly big ego and will stop at nothing to get her way (and throws a hissy fit when she is called on it), and I often wonder why Eddie fell in love and married her. Parts of this book reinforce that notion. However, if you like lots of action, danger and adventure, this is a good book to read.

Great read!
I really love Andy McDermott as an author. This book follows on from his other Nina Wilde stories, pretty much seems to be the female version of Clive Cusslers Dirk Pitt. The story can come across as being rather predictable, but I didn't care, enjoyed every minute of it and can't wait for the next book to arrive!

Action Packed
Another Andy McDermott action packed thriller. The twists and turns are exciting and make the book hard to put down. Mr. McDermott has perfected the art of story telling.

Archaeological mayhem!
The further adventures of Nina and Eddie Chase, some of the more endearing characters conjured for this type of adventure novel. These are more believable and likeable characters than any in,say,a James Rollins or Matthew Reilley book in my opinion, and I have read the whole series so far except "Excalibur" and the "sequel" to this one.Almost finished this one,I am only docking it one star reason being "Atlantis" part one and "Covenant of Genesis" were more impressive books,"Pyramid of Doom" was pretty good as were the ones about Hercules and the Hindu artifact thief, but this one has a ton of action and is a good cure for boredom!Indiana Jones on steroids, awesome if you like a good adventure with some comic relief, these should be movies but oh well, they are better!

Good...but...
Have loved Nina and Eddie's adventures in the past and eagerly awaited each new installment. However, this one was a stretch for me because I don't enjoy experiencing the personal battles and conflict within their marriage. Yes, I KNOW, it's probably more "accurate" that two such dissimilar people would have significant clashes but, when I read these types of books, I'm not reading for realism. Would have enjoyed it much more had the author left them working seamlessly as partners and left out some of Nina's and Eddie's infighting.

I got this as soon as the paperback was released but knowing it was going to be a guarenteed great read, I forced myself to save it to take on holiday. I had a brilliant day round the pool reading this latest instalment of Nina & Eddie's adventures. The plot as usual was excellent, a real page turner with plenty of action and suspense along with Eddie's usual one-liners to make us laugh. I was so engrossed that when I had finished, my husband enquired what was so wonderful about the book. I gave hime a run down on the characters & type of story with the result that the next morning he stuck his nose in the book and did not emerge until he had finished it, only to then enquire as to whether the rest of the series were gracing the shelves at home. The only thing different about this instalment is that Andy has left us on abit of a cliffhanger as to what is going to happen next where as usually the books have 'endings'. I have to say that although initially horrified & thinking 'oh no! what happens next', I think it is actually a good idea that the format has been varied a bit otherwise the idea would get a bit stale as there are only so many 'lost' items that Nina can 'discover' I do not want to write any spoilers for people but the ending seems to suggest that the next book will have Eddie hunting for bad guys rather than the usual recipe of trailing after Nina whilst she hunts for lost cities etc. Can't wait to see what happens next, hurry up Andy please!
