A Window of Insight
This is the only book I found that contained Lanyer's Salve Deus poems in their entirety. Not only are the poems exquisite in their language and rhythm, but they also document a network of support among educated women of the early 17th Century. Although the title poem is most often taught, the dedicatory poems contain beautiful expressions of affection and admiration for the women who mentored Aemelia Lanyer. These poems offer a window of insight into relationships and ideologies of the time, and are particularly interesting since Salve Deus may be the first volume of poetry published by a women in England, originally in 1611.
