Good resource
This book is very helpful detailing what you need to know before you begin virtual instruction and in providing ideas for how to use the features of VILT software. I think our VILTs will be better and more interactive now.

Great guide for beginner and advanced virtual trainers!
I just finished reading this book and was quite pleased with it on many levels. I've been a virtual trainer for over a decade though I don't do it consistently. I consider myself a professional amateur presenter...This is the kind of book I wish I had when I started. Cindy does a great job of presenting the topics in a logical and practical manner. Practicality is never sacrificed in this book. Its goal is to make sure you become a great virtual trainer. The book starts with, what else, the basics! But this is extremely important for a trainer transition to the world of virtual training by choice or otherwise. For the non-techie, the book discusses what Virtual Training is, what kind of hardware is needed and the different software options available to you. Then it gets even better by focusing on techniques, time management, classroom setup and the importance of practice, practice and more practice. The point is made quite clearly that virtual training IS training...One chapter I greatly enjoyed, being that I also do voice-over recordings and directing, was the one on... your voice! This is something rarely talked about or mentioned and can make the difference between a successful and abysmal presentation. Cindy talks about the importance of your voice and how to correct some voice issues. Very, very important information in this chapter!!!All in all, the book is excellent. Organization is clear and, more importantly, it communicates exactly what you need to know and do in order to become proficient at Virtual Training.I'd recommend this book as a must-have for professional trainers, preenters and eLearning specialists. Great job!One nit: I wish there were links to on-line samples of good Virtual Training presentations. If there were, I missed them. That would have been invaluable. But that again is is just a minor complaint.

Virtual Training Basics, an easy read with GREAT advice
The author, Cindy Huggett, is methodical in setting the reader up for virtual training success. She makes the distinctions between different forms of virtual training, not assuming that everyone knows the difference between synchronous (at the same time) and asynchronous (not at the same time) virtual training. She helps the everyday trainer or instructional designer to understand the similarities and differences with their current training methods. I love that she has screen shots. This book also defines terminology, basic rules, and extras like "think about this" in every section that help the reader to apply the concepts.I learned how to use the common virtual training software tools like "whiteboard." Cindy also provided many checklists that help in setting up the successful virtual training environment. Finally, I loved Chapter 10, the chapter that helps you know what to do when something goes wrong! Sure enough, at two of my virtual sessions, I needed to do just as Cindy suggested in dealing with the Murphy's law of training and technology.Virtual Training Basics is just that--a primer on everything you need to know to plan for and conduct a great training with virtual participants!

Best Virtual Training Manual
I'm new to virtual training, 1 year experience. My background is instructor-led, so when I was told I'd start training virtually, I became very nervous. I thought I'd hate it. After reading this book, it made me realize I'm already doing these training techniques. This book just confirmed what I was already doing. I absolutely LOVED this book and shared it with our lead trainers. They all expressed that this should be required reading for our new trainers. I shared my copy with them and they are now passing it around through the dept. By far, the best training manual written. It was VERY easy to follow and read. I could relate to everything Cindy talked about and it didn't feel like a foreign topic to me. I've completed a couple of Cindy's online classes and this book went right along with her topics. I'm looking forward to reading more of her material and have passed the word on about her! Thanks Cindy for helping me feel more confident about myself! This book helped confirm that!
