Clinton St. Baking Company Cookbook: Breakfast, Brunch & Beyond from New York's Favorite Neighborhood Restaurant

Come for the breakfast, stick around for everything else
Breakfast is my absolute favorite meal of the day, so this cookbook with the chocolate chip pancakes was appealing to me. Clinton St. Baking Company is a bakery/cafe in NYC, and as with many bakery/restaurant cookbooks, these recipes have all been tested in the real world. Scaled down for the home kitchen, they still have the appeal of uniqueness and many of them have become go to recipes for my family. For breakfast, we often whip up the buttermilk biscuits. They are quick and simple and oh so tasty. These fluffy biscuits form the base of several of the breakfasts in this cookbook, such as Spanish biscuit sandwiches with chorizo and tomatillo sauce. There are a bunch of other great recipes for things like muffins, pancakes, and even eggs (check out the tips for making a perfect omelet).I haven't tried as many of the lunch recipes, but the recipe for fried chicken is absolutely the best I've had. They say the fried chicken is one of the signature meals at Clinton St., and that comes through in this recipe. If a cookbook is worth buying for just one recipe, this would be the one.But this cookbook is worth buying for many more of the recipes. There are two cake recipes that I come back to again and again; the white birthday cake and especially the black and white cake, which is rich and moist and gets raves every time I make it (which isn't often enough). As you can tell, the recipes in this cookbook cover everything important, from breakfast to dessert. Well worth buying. My copy is well used, and it will continue to be used for years to come. No dust collecting on this one!

Great recipes and well written
I purchased this book recently on Amazon after seeing a review of it in a decor magazine (House Beautiful I think). The article made the food sound so good I thought I'd give it a try. It's been a long time since I bought a cookbook and I don't really care for pancakes but these looked so nice it got me curious. I have been pouring over the pages since it arrived. I'm actually reading it page by page like a novel its so well written (well done DeDe). The pictures are great and the little tips they provide are well worth the cost of the book. This couple loves food and their enthusiasm really rubs off while you're reading it. I enjoyed hearing about the experiences that led to Neil and DeDe's success in the food business. The acknowledgements of their staff, customers and the little plugs they provide to other NY chefs and restaurant owners is a really nice addition to the book. The best part is; the recipes work and they are not complicated to execute. This is earthy family cooking - recipes that even fussy eaters (kids)will enjoy. Having read the book I am planning a trip to New York in the fall to have brunch at the bakery and experience Neil's cooking first hand and also visit Community Food and Juice which sounds lovely as well.

Great cookbook with lots of tips and truly useful recipes
This is one of the most useful cookbooks I've ever purchased, because the recipes are all (mostly) simply meals that you will want to eat everyday. I tried the chocolate/banana muffin recipe, left out the banana and added 1/4 of cocoa powder. I added just a couple tablespoons of milk because the batter seemed too thick to me. They turned out so delicious! My husband made the Crab Cakes with Cajun Remoulade. Another home run! After trying their recipe for hash browns I will never go back to the old way I used to do them. Clarified butter and baked potatoes is the secret. I also tried the Fried Chicken Recipe. I used half of the salt that was called for in the buttermilk marinade, and they were plenty salty enough. The buttermilk does make some of the most juicy and delicious fried chicken.I am a little confused about one thing: the "Buttermilk Waffle" recipe says to use the "Pancake Recipe." with a few extra things thrown in. But the pancake recipe calls for whole milk, not buttermilk. It's a little confusing and I think must be an error in the book. I tried the pancake recipe with both milk and buttermilk and it's great both ways, so not to worry. All in all, this cookbook has wonderful recipes and hints as long as you use your head, (like not using the full amount of salt called for in the chicken marinade and the onion ring marinade).

One of the best
This cookbook has almost everything you could want for brunch and breakfast. Shout out to Neil Kleinberg for making this book happen but the only thing missing was the blueberry topping recipe for his pancakes.

Incredible, SIMPLE recipes & such a well-written cookbook!
There's so much to love about the Clinton Street Baking Co. cookbook - it starts with the restaurant itself, of course. My family are all big fans of the brunch, but also love lunch and dinner there too. And now I can recreate some of our faves (like the Banana Chocolate Chunk Muffins and their Brookies) at home! I'm not a super sophisticated cook, and I was really thrilled to find the recipes are easy to follow and not overly complicated. The writing is engaging and fun to read - there's a great story behind not just the restaurant itself, but also many of the recipes. Makes me feel like a member of the Clinton Street family - and not just a hungry fan!

Excellent!
I checked out the Clinton St. Baking Company Cookbook from my local library after viewing the cookbook on Amazon. This cookbook was a "must have" purchase! The recipes, the pictures, and the tips are great. I have many of the ingredients on hand, and the recipes are very easy to make. I love to cook and find that many of the recipes are similar to what I already make, but have additional ingredients that enhance the flavour. I really like that the recipes are combined with home-made condiments that complete the dish. I would not have thought to add sour cream to coleslaw, which I now make on a weekly basis. I plan to cook my way thru this book!
