A fun but short read.
I liked it. The author goes into the region and homestyle that Hippocrates grew up in. Additionally he talks about the educationg that Hippocrates had, and why he likely ended up in medicine, as opposed to some of the other careers of his day.It also goes into some of the medical practices of those days, exploring Egyptian, Chinese, Japanese, among other practices. It concludes by discussing his legacy and some of his inspired pupils. My only grief with it is that it is quite short.

The Real Father of Medicine
I am truly blessed to have heard of The Father of Medicine. This book is a true testament of the life of a man that truly live and believe in his craft. I am thankful to have been able to get to know him through Dr. Sebi vision.

Nice book
Very straightforward and short book about the life and legacy of Hippocrates. Is nice for having a personal insight on the origins of the present medical practice.

Despite the most reviews on this topic, skip this one
I got this book as it had the most reviews on this topic, but...Though only beginning this book, scanning the contents & jumping to healing systems of Hippocrates' time, theres NO mention of Ayurveda, the planet's oldest healing system & what he writes of TCM, Traditional Chinese Medicine, is insulting, for what he writes & for what is entirely missing. Were these two gaping lapses l intentional, or was it perhaps to meet a deadline? How did he think he could get away with it?Despite this being written half a century ago, when writing a book, one does one's homework. Obviously his editor is equally to blame. If this vignette is an example of the rest of the book, save your time.

Hippocrates
Magnificent writing. One of the finest books of information I have ever read. Easy to read but jammed with important data. If only I could such on other subjects. Has Goldberg written anything else?

Great little book!
Great little book! Very easy to read historical presentation of the beggining of Medicine as a profession as per Asclepius but mostly by Hippocrates. Would make an ideal gift for a medical student as well as for anyone in Medicine or interested in the history of Medicine.

it's ok
pretty basic,I read the whole thing in a half hour, maybe 40 minutes.ok for someone who knows nothing, or very little, about him. There is some interesting information in there, more so on the history of medical advancement, of which hippocrates was incredibly influential. Not bad if you want a quick read and are interested in the history of western medicine.

Well done
Herbert Goldberg does a fantastic job of retelling the history of Greece and showing how these events impacted Hippocrates. I recommend this book to anyone who is writing a research paper that is on anything about Ancient Greek culture and of course on Hippocrates himself.

Loved it
This is a very clear and elegant book on introducing Hippocrates : what he did for medicine and what qualities he stood for. I am actually an artist and a Reiki therapist - so not a medical practitioner as such - but I found confidence and strength in going to the human source of so much medical knowledge.

Hippocrates has much to say that is relevant to present day medicine
Hippocrates has much to teach us particularly in the matter of medical ethics. I think a study of his Oath should be required of all those in the medical profesion
