LG Gram 2019 16G ram 256G SSD + upgrades + Ubuntu Mate 18.04 - new dev work horse
LG Gram 2019 16G ram 256G SSD + upgrades: by far best price points for max performance, better than 2020 model for the money. This config cost me 1247.00 + Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSD 1TB - M.2 NVMe upgrade for 220.00 + Samsung 32GB DDR4 2666MHz RAM for 123.00 + USB C to Ethernet Adapter 10/100/1000mbps for 13.50. So, for 1600.00, the lightest fastest machine, 40G of RAM, 1TB fast SSD, backup stock 256G SSD in slot 2, and full 1Gbps network w/ aftermarket adapter. For anyone who primarily runs Linux, no worries at all. Ubuntu Mate 18.04 has no issues so far. All hardware is supported and no observed bugs. The 8th gen I7 is better in my opinion as well than the 10th Gen. Based on battery life/heat the 10th is better but when u already have a battery life of over 10 hours and a machine that does not get hot at all, do u really want to compromise any performance at all for a longer battery life, a fraction less heat, and for an extra 800.00? This machine can handle running a windows 10 VM with 16G of RAM in Virtual Box with 3 10+ tab firefox instances + a 10+ tab chrome instance + 10 terminal tabs, and multiple other apps running without the fan ever even coming to life, and its cool to the touch. I highly recommend this scenario to max out the RAM and upgrade the SSD while still keeping the cost at a sane level. Also, the metal case is very nice, does not feel flimsy or cheap even though its very thin. Touchscreen is workable, not great but works fine, I have no use for it really. There is a slight glare on the glossy screen in the sun but I don't generally try to work with sun facing my laptop anyway, not sure that could be decent on any machine. This machine replaced a Samsung NP900X4C from 2012 with a 256G SSD and 16G of RAM w/ the same OS. The Gram is the first one I've seen to really justify the expense over the 2012 Samsung ultrabook. If the Samsung keyboard had not finally begun to fail, I'd probably still make it last even longer.

So lightweight!
I wanted a bigger screen for doing Excel spreadsheets when I'm not at home, but I also carry around an iPad pro and enough other items that lightweight is as important to me as speed/performance. I put it on a food scale and it was the same weight as my ipad pro 12.9 with the keyboard cover - 2.5lbs. You can't get any lighter than that for 15 inches! The gram doesn't feel cheap and it seems to have very good performance for regular tasks like Excel, Outlook and web surfing. I tend to open a LOT of windows and tabs at once and the gram handles it well. I love the glossy screen.I will say that the keyboard does take getting used to because the number pad makes the regular keys slightly off center and it takes me about 5 mins to adjust and not make multiple typing errors. I ended up missing the backspace key and hitting the "-" key several times because of the orientation. It also changes the "lapability" because your hands are skewed to the left slightly. I'm sure I will get used to it over time, but if I had a choice I would have preferred a wider keyboard and no dedicated number pad.I just got this four days ago, so I haven't had a great deal of time to assess the battery, but so far so good. The finger print reader is great. I haven't had that before and am really enjoying the ease of it. I love that they included a USB-C to Ethernet adapter in the box. I am also coming from an older Surface Pro 3, so having 3 USB ports feels like a luxury.I would definitely recommend this from a quality/performance perspective if you need a bigger screen without the weight, but I could imagine the keyboard might irritate some people. I love it and am very happy with the purchase.

Best Laptop
I have always been a die hard Sony Vaio user and was devastated when Sony got out of the laptop business. I brought my old Vaio back to life until there was none left. I researched and discovered the LG Gram and am amazed with this laptop! I use it every single day for work at work and also work from home and use it there as well. I would say I'm using this laptop 8+ hours a day. The battery life is amazing, the speed is amazing. Absolutely no hesitation! I don't use the touchscreen often, but when I have it's excellent. Another notable perk is it weighs almost nothing, has a very sleek design. I'm now an LG Gram girl!!
