My cat eats all wet food so his water consumption is minimal, but I still want to encourage him to drink water and I've always had a cat fountain since my previous cat. I have tried them all. Before they even came out with a ceramic fountain, I was the one saying "why doesn't someone make a ceramic fountain I can put in the dishwasher??" Well from my lips to God's ears, I found the Pioneer fountain on desertcart and took a deep breath and ordered it. Setup was easy, it's attractive, and I find the sound of the dripping water adds to a sense of serenity in my living room. It's a trickle, and it doesn't sound like a fountain vibrating against plastic like the others. When it's in the dishwasher, I can tell something is missing. So very easy to clean. Did I say SO VERY EASY TO CLEAN??? After struggling for years with the the Drinkwell fountain's nooks and crannies, it was like I died and went to heaven when I went to clean this fountain for the first time. Sometimes I wash it, sometimes it goes in the dishwasher. The little plastic thingy that connects to the base of fountain pops out if you're worried about it melting in the dishwasher. The pump cover is safe on the top rack of the dishwasher and the only thing I need to wash by hand is the pump itself (can you tell I hate washing dishes??). I like the filters - higher quality than any other filter I've seen, I would have thought they'd be sky high expensive, but they are not. And I don't have to worry about slime buildup with this kind of fountain the way I did with the plastic fountains (and again, I've tried them all). I use filtered water only in it (I have a PUR filter). The only thing I don't care for is the way the top has to go on the bottom. The placement of the pump requires you kind of having to first make the bottom to top connection with the tubing and then take the top and adjust it so it sits where it is supposed to. It's almost like they made it harder than they needed to by putting the hole that the cord for the pump goes down in the location that it is because it prevents you from putting the pump in the spot that would make it so much easier to make the bottom to top connection. I almost dropped a star off the review because of this, but I'm so pleased with this fountain after a year of service, I decided not to. For the people that are having problems with the water splashing out of it and making the floor wet, I wonder if they realize there is a switch on the side of the pump that controls the intensity and I also wonder if they have the top on correctly or if it's over more towards one side because that has been the case with me a couple of times and yes, I did have a wet floor, but I keep it on a vinyl placemat anyway so it wasn't that bad (why would someone even think of putting a fountain directly on top of carpeting???). So if you want a fountain that (1) is easy to clean; (2) is higher end quality design; (3) doesn't rob you blind with replacement filter costs; (4) is easy to clean ... oops, already said that I know, this is the real deal. Review: Quite, cats love it - I just got this in the mail about an hour ago. I cleaned it all up, followed the directions, & put it together. It comes with one filter that says it needs to be replaced every 2-4 weeks. It was very easy to put together despite having the take apart the motor to clean those little parts. There's pictures in the booklet they provide to walk you through this. Honestly, it was so easy a child could do it. The booklet also says that your cat may need to adjust to the filter (noises, movements, change in general) so I figured my scaredy cats would be no different. Wrong. They practically pulled it out the box themselves. My boy (maine coon) is still -an hour later- sitting by his fountain all smug and proud. I couldnt even plug the thing in before he was under my feet drinking the water from it. He immediately used the bubbling part up top and loves the bottom bowl too for cleaning his paws. My girl, on the other hand, was a little hesitant and kind of in awe at the fountain. She's more cautious at times and this was no different. As soon as he was done I plopped her in front of it and she smacked it and then drank. Now she laying by it cleaning her paws & purring up a storm. I would recommend this to anyone who has cats who are picky drinkers. The reason I bought one was due to my boy who is fussy, like any maine coon really.. Cullen only likes streaming water and he was making a mess of his bowl previous to this; splashing, smacking his bowl around...trying to sit in it. He would probably like the waterfall type better but this one was way cheaper and I figured it would be less intimidating for my Lilly, not to mention Cullen would most likely use it like a shower. He did manage to get water all over my wall already which doesnt surprise me. My floor is dry which is what matters more to me. He was getting the rug soaked even with a food tray underneath. Now we're dry...so far anyway. People have been complaining about the noise. I hear nothing. NOTHING! Drips here and there is all. My fridge is louder. I have a tiny apt and the fountain is literally 10 feet away from my couch in the living and the tv is off. I still only here the humming of the fridge and little quite dripping sounds every so often. I find the sounds to be very calming. i would image anyone who has a noisy motor either didnt connect it properly or should return it for a new one since it's clearly not suppose to be that way. I would buy this again and again, esp since the price is so attractive! Size wise it's nice. I thought of getting a larger one since Cullen is 15lbs (not fat just a large breed) but Lilly is only 7lbs; about the size of a Chihuahua. This fountain is a bit big for her. Perfect size for cats & smaller dogs. Yorkies to Beagles, brittneys, etc. Not corgis, then it's too small. Nothing Broken. All parts in working condition. Assembly: Very simple. Instructions straight to the point. Cleaning: Easy to clean and works great. Noise: Pretty quiet as long as long as the water level stays up. If you let the water get too low, the motor becomes very loud. It does specify in the instructions to not let this happen. So I feel that those reviews that state the motor is loud - it's just a matter of the water level being too low. Leak Issue: On the motor it has different levels that allow you control how much water flow comes out of the top of the fountain. Those owners who have specified that it leaks when properly assembled need to just adjust the water output level to the lowest setting. I put it on high and when my cat would take a sip from the top of the fountain it would cause it to overflow off the side. Also the top of the fountain needs to be aligned properly. If the top is misaligned it may cause it to over spill just a bit. The Kitties opinions: I have two male kitties both about a year old. They were brought up on these sorts of water dishes. They love it and I can even find them playing with it sometimes (as they both love playing in water). But anytime I change to a different water dish, I always leave it unplugged for the first few days so that they can get used to it and then leave it turned on. Overall Opinion: I love the fountain. It is very sheik, easy to clean, more sanitary and my cats don't play in it - which has happened with most fountains.
