Still pumping after a year
I've had this fountain for about a year now. My cat eats all wet food so his water consumption is minimal, but I still want to encourage him to drink water and I've always had a cat fountain since my previous cat. I have tried them all. Before they even came out with a ceramic fountain, I was the one saying "why doesn't someone make a ceramic fountain I can put in the dishwasher??" Well from my lips to God's ears, I found the Pioneer fountain on Amazon and took a deep breath and ordered it. Setup was easy, it's attractive, and I find the sound of the dripping water adds to a sense of serenity in my living room. It's a trickle, and it doesn't sound like a fountain vibrating against plastic like the others. When it's in the dishwasher, I can tell something is missing. So very easy to clean. Did I say SO VERY EASY TO CLEAN??? After struggling for years with the the Drinkwell fountain's nooks and crannies, it was like I died and went to heaven when I went to clean this fountain for the first time. Sometimes I wash it, sometimes it goes in the dishwasher. The little plastic thingy that connects to the base of fountain pops out if you're worried about it melting in the dishwasher. The pump cover is safe on the top rack of the dishwasher and the only thing I need to wash by hand is the pump itself (can you tell I hate washing dishes??). I like the filters - higher quality than any other filter I've seen, I would have thought they'd be sky high expensive, but they are not. And I don't have to worry about slime buildup with this kind of fountain the way I did with the plastic fountains (and again, I've tried them all). I use filtered water only in it (I have a PUR filter). The only thing I don't care for is the way the top has to go on the bottom. The placement of the pump requires you kind of having to first make the bottom to top connection with the tubing and then take the top and adjust it so it sits where it is supposed to. It's almost like they made it harder than they needed to by putting the hole that the cord for the pump goes down in the location that it is because it prevents you from putting the pump in the spot that would make it so much easier to make the bottom to top connection. I almost dropped a star off the review because of this, but I'm so pleased with this fountain after a year of service, I decided not to. For the people that are having problems with the water splashing out of it and making the floor wet, I wonder if they realize there is a switch on the side of the pump that controls the intensity and I also wonder if they have the top on correctly or if it's over more towards one side because that has been the case with me a couple of times and yes, I did have a wet floor, but I keep it on a vinyl placemat anyway so it wasn't that bad (why would someone even think of putting a fountain directly on top of carpeting???). So if you want a fountain that (1) is easy to clean; (2) is higher end quality design; (3) doesn't rob you blind with replacement filter costs; (4) is easy to clean ... oops, already said that I know, this is the real deal.

Quite, cats love it
I just got this in the mail about an hour ago. I cleaned it all up, followed the directions, & put it together. It comes with one filter that says it needs to be replaced every 2-4 weeks. It was very easy to put together despite having the take apart the motor to clean those little parts. There's pictures in the booklet they provide to walk you through this. Honestly, it was so easy a child could do it. The booklet also says that your cat may need to adjust to the filter (noises, movements, change in general) so I figured my scaredy cats would be no different. Wrong. They practically pulled it out the box themselves. My boy (maine coon) is still -an hour later- sitting by his fountain all smug and proud. I couldnt even plug the thing in before he was under my feet drinking the water from it. He immediately used the bubbling part up top and loves the bottom bowl too for cleaning his paws. My girl, on the other hand, was a little hesitant and kind of in awe at the fountain. She's more cautious at times and this was no different. As soon as he was done I plopped her in front of it and she smacked it and then drank. Now she laying by it cleaning her paws & purring up a storm. I would recommend this to anyone who has cats who are picky drinkers. The reason I bought one was due to my boy who is fussy, like any maine coon really.. Cullen only likes streaming water and he was making a mess of his bowl previous to this; splashing, smacking his bowl around...trying to sit in it. He would probably like the waterfall type better but this one was way cheaper and I figured it would be less intimidating for my Lilly, not to mention Cullen would most likely use it like a shower. He did manage to get water all over my wall already which doesnt surprise me. My floor is dry which is what matters more to me. He was getting the rug soaked even with a food tray underneath. Now we're dry...so far anyway. People have been complaining about the noise. I hear nothing. NOTHING! Drips here and there is all. My fridge is louder. I have a tiny apt and the fountain is literally 10 feet away from my couch in the living and the tv is off. I still only here the humming of the fridge and little quite dripping sounds every so often. I find the sounds to be very calming. i would image anyone who has a noisy motor either didnt connect it properly or should return it for a new one since it's clearly not suppose to be that way. I would buy this again and again, esp since the price is so attractive! Size wise it's nice. I thought of getting a larger one since Cullen is 15lbs (not fat just a large breed) but Lilly is only 7lbs; about the size of a Chihuahua. This fountain is a bit big for her. Perfect size for cats & smaller dogs. Yorkies to Beagles, brittneys, etc. Not corgis, then it's too small. Although if they drink a lot you'll have to keep refilling it more often.

very chic, easy to clean, sanitary and overall pleased :)
Shipping: Arrived Early. Nothing Broken. All parts in working condition. Assembly: Very simple. Instructions straight to the point. Cleaning: Easy to clean and works great. Noise: Pretty quiet as long as long as the water level stays up. If you let the water get too low, the motor becomes very loud. It does specify in the instructions to not let this happen. So I feel that those reviews that state the motor is loud - it's just a matter of the water level being too low. Leak Issue: On the motor it has different levels that allow you control how much water flow comes out of the top of the fountain. Those owners who have specified that it leaks when properly assembled need to just adjust the water output level to the lowest setting. I put it on high and when my cat would take a sip from the top of the fountain it would cause it to overflow off the side. Also the top of the fountain needs to be aligned properly. If the top is misaligned it may cause it to over spill just a bit. The Kitties opinions: I have two male kitties both about a year old. They were brought up on these sorts of water dishes. They love it and I can even find them playing with it sometimes (as they both love playing in water). But anytime I change to a different water dish, I always leave it unplugged for the first few days so that they can get used to it and then leave it turned on. Overall Opinion: I love the fountain. It is very sheik, easy to clean, more sanitary and my cats don't play in it - which has happened with most fountains. I love it!

I want to love it, but...
I bought this beautiful ceramic pet drinking fountain to replace the plastic one that I have had for the last year or so. While I was happy with the low noise level and water capacity of my plastic one, I was grossed out by how slimy and grimy it would get and felt that I wasn't able to keep it as clean as I would like. I decided to go with the Pioneer Pet Ceramic Raindrop Pet Drinking Fountain in white because I liked the aesthetically pleasing style and knew that the ceramic surfaces would be much easier to clean and sanitize. I've had it running for about two weeks now, and I am still not entirely convinced that this is the ultimate fountain for my two adult kitties... Pros: -As I mentioned, the ceramic makes it very easy to clean and sanitize. The ceramic fountain and bowl comes apart in two pieces that can easily be put in the dishwasher. -Aesthetically pleasing, zen like style. No monstrous plastic fountain taking up your floor space! -My cats took to it very quickly. They love the fresh running water. Cons: -I'm not trying to sound lazy, but I have to fill it up much more than I expected. With just my two cats, I still have to fill it up once a day to keep it from making the low-water, vibration sound. -It makes much more noise than my previous plastic version, even when filled to capacity. It isn't white noise to me; it's an unpleasant vibration sound. It's the sound of the motor - not from the ceramic pieces sitting on each other. I have tried positioning the fountain many different ways and nothing has stopped the sound. -As others have mentioned, it seems a little too easy for the top piece to become dislodged if not positioned correctly. This happened to me in the first couple of days - luckily, the fountain was on a lipped pet placemat so the water was contained. It only happened once and has not happened since. While I want to love this fountain, I just can't. More than anything, I am disappointed with the sound of the motor. I am happy enough to keep it for now, but I will continue my quest for the perfect pet fountain. I want something that is pleasant on the ears, looks nice, is sanitary, and provides my cats with nice, clean water without me having to fill it up as if it were a regular bowl.

Wish I had purchased sooner
I've always been curious about a pet fountain for my cats. During an overnight vet visit, they were housed together and only had a water dish for their entertainment. The vet staff had more than enough trouble keeping it full, and this thinking followed them home. Rather than be stuck with water all over my floors (even with a large, heavy duty, ceramic dog bowl, I opted for dripping a faucet constantly for them. My inner girl scout was conflicted about this, but it saved me a daily hassle. Fast forward several YEARS, and I tried transitioning them back to a bowl to clear my conscience of wasting water. This resulted in them REFUSING to drink from it, and one getting sick because of it. I had no choice but to FINALLY look into fountains. I choose this one after shopping around based on several factors: 1.) DESIGN. It looks modern, and has a decent capacity. Living in an apartment with limited space, footprint was also a factor I considered. 2.) COMPANY REPUTATION. I already have the Pioneer Pet black ceramic feeder, which was a remarkable success. The question asked regarding lead content was also paramount in my decision, and luckily it adheres to the stringent California standards. 3.) MATERIALS. Again, lead free, but as most pet owners know, plastic food dishes are often ill advised as bacteria can flourish in the smallest scratch. Therefore it was either this one or the stainless steel. Given my cats history with PLAYING in their water, I wanted something substantial that wouldn't move around. I've only had this item for a day, but it is REMARKABLE. The set up was surprisingly easy, and the pump clearly goes in the area marked by a small indent at the bottom. I lined it up on top, and plugged it in. Presto, change-o, my cats had a new water source! They both were quite intrigued by it and aside from dipping their paws in it a few times, instantly started drinking. PROS: - QUIET. I don't know how anyone could complain about the noise. I cannot hear the pump at all, reviews who state this as being a con might have either received a lemon, or don't have the pump properly suctioned to the bottom. That being said, it does make a gentle babbling brook sound, but if this is a deal breaker, then a pet fountain might not be an option. - STURDY. I've tried moving the top part (with the force I think a cat would have) to displace it off of the base, it didn't budge. I could see this potentially being and issue with the stainless steel model if the top part is simply a piece of shaped steel without any weight. - ELEGANT. I briefly considered putting the fountain next to their food dish in the kitchen. There wasn't a nearby outlet for it, and though I have more than enough extension cords, I opted to place it on a stone end table in my living room. I get the serene sounds of a babbling brook, the cats get their fresh water, and it's in a place where I can better monitor it while at home. Win/win!! CONS: - CAPACITY (for dogs). I can't imagine this fountain holding near enough to keep a thirsty dog happy, but I think it will be perfect for felines. - FILTERS. I purchase filters for my own water pitcher, this is an additional expense. There was a review I read somewhere on Amazon regarding a customer making his own filters from items at the pet store, this will be something I look into. All that being said, I haven't had the opportunity to clean this yet as I've only had it a day. I can't imagine this being too much of a hassle to clean since I've gotten used to their pet food bowl with all of it's nooks and crannies (a water bottle brush set from Oxo makes cleaning a breeze).

Is it a fountain or a toy?
I so wanted to like the product. Chicago had a particular hot summer and without air conditioning, I was worried my cat, Lily, would overheat. I bought this fountain to keep her hydrated. It holds way more water than previous bowl and I hoping the running water would entice her to drink more. I chose this fountain mainly because it was ceramic and had excellent ratings. The one things I was very much against was a plastic fountain. I feel I should stop here and mention a few things about Lily. She is a very playful, energetic and curious cat...nothing odd about that. The extra little important tidbit: she loves water. I don't mean she loves drinking water b/c she enjoys hydration; I mean she loves to play with water. To her the toilet is a toy. The sink is a toy. And any body of liquid left somewhere she considers her territory (read: any flat surface she can reach), is meant for her to be in. The first week or two that I had the fountain, it did its job. She drank out it, I refilled it, all was well. I didn't have a problem with noise. The motor seemed to go into sustained mode after about 20 or 30 minutes and was fairly quite. As long as it was full, I didn't notice a problem with a "dripping" sound. After about two weeks things went downhill. Curiosity got the best of Lily and she began to experiment with her water fountain. Lily: "Can I sit in the fountain?", "Can I stand on the fountain?", "Maybe I should chase that floating speck with my face", "When I dip my paw in, then pull it out and shake it, I can bless all the nearby furniture like a priest", "If I put my paw over the water's exit, then it will flow everywhere and go all over the floor!" It's that last one you should pay attention to. Is it the fountain's fault my cat wanted to sit in it? No. However the design is such that the water flows around the outside of the basin, not in the center. What this means is all it takes is one small cat paw anywhere on that slide and the water is no longer flowing back into the basin, but onto the floor. It just takes a few minutes for most of the water to be emptied out of the fountain. Which is more than just a mess to clean up, it's dangerous. The motor continues to run without adequate water, which according to the warning sheet sent with the fountain, is a fire hazard. Because of this I am left with no choice but to never plug it in, thus making it the most pointlessly expensive water bowl I've ever purchased! Moral of my story: if your pet loves to play [especially with water], this is probably not the fountain you should get. It's too easy for them to make a huge mess. I think this could have easily been designed in such a way that the path the water follows didn't go around the outside of the bowl and would have eliminated this problem/hazard. I suppose that might have messed with the aesthetics of it, but would have been much more practical. Unfortunately, it looks like we'll be trying our luck with a plastic fountain.

Works, but is loud.
It physically functions as a pet fountain - and it was a cheap option to see if my cat would even drink from one - but I switched to a more expensive pet fountain (the PetKit Eversweet Solo 2) within just a week. This thing is LOUD and does not keep itself well-primed; the pump vibrated so much that I had to put a mat under it and it still was audible from the next room at night. I didn't feel like I could leave it alone the way I have my more expensive fountain. As a plus, it is very easy to clean and it has a large capacity so if you have a small dog, this would probably work.

Had this for a month and works great. It is not loud at all and I have it on the lowest setting so the water fall is very quiet. New buyers: I would suggest you go to YouTube and search this product and look at the videos. It will help to correctly assemble the product, show you where on the pump the settings are for how fast it pumps water and there is a great video on how to clean the pump itself (have not tried this yet myself). I clean the bowl about every 10-14 days (once per week recommended) and definitely suggest changing the filter once a month even if you use filtered water. My cat drinks out of the top and my Australian Shepperd and Dalmatian drink out of the bowl. I do make sure its full before I go to bed because my pets seem to drink more at night than during the day. I woke up one morning with the pump sucking some air because the water level was too low - hence why I'm filling it before bedtime now. I had a ceramic water bowl (of same water capacity - 60 oz) that I cleaned and changed water daily because of dog hair and bits of food on their faces would muck up the water. The filter seems to catch all this so instead of cleaning daily, I now just use a measuring cup to refill the water daily (twice a day dependent on how much they drink). Very good product, I would recommend the white ceramic as you can see when it starts to look slimy and needs cleaning/scrubbing. Make sure to rinse new filter cartridges thoroughly before installing. I chose this one because there is water access when the power goes out (often happens during storms). Other types would leave your pet without access while you're at work and don't know the power is out. It took about 3 days for all three pets to get accustomed to it. I left their old water bowl (not cleaned or refilled) next to the fountain. They soon chose the fountain for drinking rather than the revolting non clean water bowl next to it. My cat choose the fountain first, my dalmatian was the last to transition. **Update: Sept 2018: Had this for several years now and it still works great. Pump has been replaced twice but I've learned to do a complete and thorough cleaning once a month. No leaks, no cracks. Will purchase another if this one ever breaks. Defiantly a 5 star product.

Do not under or over fill the bowl
This is a great water dispenser which my cats love but you have to be careful with how much water is in the bowl. Too little and the filter compartment isn't properly immersed and the motor burns out. This has happened to me once but a replacement motor was easy and cheap to get. Now I judge the level by noting if I can hear any motor hum along with the trickling water sound. If I can then there's not enough water in the bowl. On the other hand, if there's too much water the teardrop-shaped shoot allows it to spill over the edge onto the floor, which is messy and annoying because it happens gradually so you don't immediately notice. I also recommend dismantling the motor completely, down to the little magnetic paddle cylinder, and washing it out about once a month to stop it getting clogged up, especially if you have hard water. I believe by doing this my motors have lasted for years.

Super Trinkbrunnen
