I purchased new ones for high school, and these things are hands down the best quality for your buck. Nice and roomy, with tons of storage. I always cut out the little puffy laptop separator pouches in the main area, as there's no use for them. If your kid uses the zip up binders, this particular style works best as the storage compartments are larger.

Love this backpack. This is the forth we've own. A yellow and black one, a blue one and now two black ones. I got the black one for work but as soon as I got it out of the package my son wanted it because the one we got him was too small for all his high school stuff. This holds all of it. I ordered another one for work. It is a great backpack with almost too many compartments and pockets but is a good size to actually hold a jacket, lunch box, laptop etc. Some might not like the little loops on the front, but I like them to clip a carbiner to and hang things or tie something on. Two side mesh pockets for water bottles which I like. They also hold up pretty well. We have only had one tear finally after everyday use for 6+ years. I will be sad when they stop making these.
