Desperation finally made me turn from doctors (who were all useless), and delve into the world of holistic medicine. I don't wish to demean the effect many of those alternative medicines have had on me. In fact, they have given me back much of my life and health.However, something else they gave me that was extra was a connection to the spiritual realm that I have been trying to figure out how to deepen. So when I "stumbled" across this book, that discusses Ayahuasca, something I have never even heard of until now, and read about all the emotional, spiritual, mental, and physical health benefits that can come from it, I think I'd call it less "stumbling" than evidence that the Universe is looking out for me.The stories are so heartfelt and vivid, and the information is profoundly eye-opening... Like there is light at the end of the tunnel. I had no idea, and at one point, I would never have considered seriously researching something like Ayahuasca. It's also a great read for anyone that perhaps has a family member participating in ayahuasca ceremonies and wants to get an idea what they've signed up for. The 16 stories cover a broad spectrum of life situations, yet all the stories are brought together in the same down to earth writing style. from memory, there were experiences shared from Sth America, Europe and USA.In addition to the stories themselves, the book provides more detail on what to look for and what to expect when joining a ceremony. I've participated in many ceremonies and found the content to be good representation of what it's all about, although there could be a infinite scenarios, so this is just a taste of what is possible. As mentioned at the end of the book, it is important to point out that the stories were generally chosen from those people that had a beneficial experience from ayahuasca ceremonies. Those that didn't have a beneficial experience might be considered work-in-progress or would not provide the inspiration desired. I realized there could be another way that we can replace the psychodynamic talk therapies we do in counseling clinics. Of course, it is just my personal view with my first impression on ayahuasca story in this book. Because I don't have any experience of ayahuasca, I cannot be sure, but I felt the 16 case stories were like a case reports of the clients who had once suffered from a psychological difficulties or had been neglected their old hurt in their deep inside finally cured their trauma and now are free from the past injuries. Ayahuasca seems to have a short-term therapy with the effect which corresponds to that of psychoanalytic or dynamic therapy. It is my first virtual experience of ayahuasca. If you want to experience the ayahuasca but not yet prepared to go for a retreat, I think it would be good to read the real cases in this book and slight taste the world of it.
