There are two sizes of T-handle keys... black (small) and red (large). The original keys were black and fit the small diamond pin on the black stems. You can still get the black key by searching on Amazon for Posiiwrx Black Manabloc Key. After the original stems had trouble with the small diamond pins breaking, they improved the stems by making a larger diamond pin for strength and molded them in red for hot lines and blue for cold lines. The 50601 red key for sale on this listing has the larger diamond slot. The original black stems are no longer manufactured and all repairs on the older systems will be done with the upgraded stems. Look on Amazon for Manabloc 50602 kit or 50603 & 50604 for 3-packs of replacement stems.

The black key is available on Amazon. Search for Posiiwrx Black Diamond Key. This is an aftermarket part, but the engineering is precise and fits the smaller diamond pins perfectly.

Q: Is this tool necessary to install new manablock

It is the key for turning each valve/line open & closed. You need the wrench for the installation. It is a must and should have been included with each Manabloc , but alas it is not. If you do not already have it , Viega 50631 PureFlow 3/8-Inch and 1/2-Inch Zero Lead Manabloc Wrench.
