Excellent watch for the price!
I've had this watch for about 3 weeks now, and really love it! The comments about it being heavy are totally wrong to me. I'm used to wearing a heavy Swiss Army watch, and this is light in comparison. Several users have mentioned that the band feels cheap. From my own experience with other high end watches, I'd say that it does not feel cheap. It is not very thick and heavy feeling, but it does feel solid, and is very comfortable on the wrist. The links are all 100% solid SS, so you know it will last years. Also, love the push button deploy clasp. One other thing that I noticed that no one has mentioned, is that the whole bracelet is brushed SS, EXCEPT at the bottom 1/8th of the middle link it is polished. It really adds to the beauty of the band. Some other observations that go against what others mentioned: 1. I can read the small numbers just fine and I'm 45 years old with about 15/20 eyesight, and don't wear reading glasses. 2. I've used the slide rule functions on several occasions. Tip calculator, large multiplication/division, converting lbs to kg and vice versa. It is a very cool tool. 3. The size on my wrist looks just right. It does not wear very big to me. I think the fashion is getting more towards larger watches, and this would be a maximum large watch for a 6" wrist, but for a 7" wrist, it is not overly large. I would even go 44mm and I think that would be my limit. 4. The lume is exceptional. I can still see it perfectly at 5am with no charge before going to bed. 5. The date window is just fine for my eyes. Just hold it a little closer to your face and you can see just fine. 6. Seconds hand lines up on almost all of the second marks, but there are a few spots around the perimeter that it does not line up. No big deal. 7. Time is right on, measured over 3 weeks against an atomic clock. 8. No chrono and alarm, big deal, don't really need that anyway. 9. Crown screws down nicely and feels fairly solid. 10. The only thing I wish this had was a sapphire crystal. But when it gets scratched, and after the 5 year warranty, I'll have them put on a sapphire crystal. But in the meantime, it really is a beautiful flat crystal that is proud of the top of the watch and bezeled at a 45 degree angle, making it look very nice. 11. The watch came from Amazon charged, so all I had to do was set the time and it has worked fine ever since. I left it on my dashboard a few bright sunny days to charge it while I worked out in the gym, and it has held its charge no problem. Overall, I'd say get this watch if you can get it under $250. It is money well spent. With a 5 year warranty, that is an incredible warranty from amazon. Not even Tag Heur/Oris/Brietling/Rolex have a warranty like that!

Great Everyday Watch
This was on a "sale" which is a fancy way of saying Amazon's automated pricing algorithm discounted it beyond the usual price point, so I went ahead and pulled the trigger on purchasing one. This has been discontinued now for about two years (2020) so finding this model still NIB is going to start getting to be difficult. First off, I always start out my watch reviews with a disclaimer like this when the price point is low. Don't expect a Rolex for a Timex price. Simple as that. People who complain about it lacking certain qualities or QA not being as precise as an Omega should probably stick to buying Rolex's and Omega's. In my experience, for the price, Citizen puts out a solid product and if I have ever had an issue either a return or warranty repair has been taken with no questions asked. Now on the review.... This is a sharp looking watch. The dial is "busy" but not distracting like some other aviation inspired designs. The GMT function is well done and also visually appealing. The case is a bit on the larger side, but wears fine on a smaller wrist given the shorter lug to lug distance. Some people complain that it is "all dial" but again I don't get this criticism. It simply does NOT wear like a huge, clunky watch. If that is what you desire, there are tons of aviation inspired watches out there that are 45+mm which will suit you just fine. For me, finding something 42mm or under that also fit on to a smaller wrist was a chore and I was quite satisfied with how this product sits. Some people dislike the metal bracelet, but I don't have a problem with it. The links are solid and polished. Clasp is also nicely done. There are enough links to get it customized easily to a small wrist and even has a micro adjust on the clasp to fine tune it. I ended up having to take out every removable link but I also prefer a more snug fit on my wrist. The slide rule is a cool function. I don't know how useful it would be in day to day use when everyone has a calculator on their personal devices, but makes for a nice conversation piece. Takes a little bit to learn how to use, but after watching a few online videos and doing an exercise or two you can acquire the skills necessary to calculate speed, time, distance, and fuel consumption over the Atlantic without any advanced computing devices necessary. Overall, no complaints all around with the styling or quality of the overall product. Now the "down" side, but there aren't many. I really wish it was sapphire crystal and not mineral. Not that I wear even my daily drivers hard, but considering the upgrade here probably would not have significantly increased the overall price of the watch and that this is meant to be more of an "active" sports style I don't see why they went cheap on that feature. Reviews elsewhere run the gamut of the mineral crystal is going to ding up from normal wear to it holds up nicely after years. I don't know what to believe and generally find mineral crystal is fine for day to day casual use. I suspect this will wear nicely for many years to come. Second "con" would be the slide rule is really hard to use in low light due to the black background. I know, I know, this really is going to bother almost no one out there, but still. Why put such a useful tool on a black background without lume? I think white would have looked just fine (and there are a few people on the internet that have modded this watch to have one which looks great). Anyway, this criticism will probably stop zero people from actually purchasing it, but I'll throw it out there just in case the slide rule was your make-or-break purchase point. All in all, buy this watch and get it soon if you are in the market for this particular style. Finding a NIB is going to be hard going forward since it was discontinued back in 2020.

Good watch
Love this watch. Very stylish yet good for every day. It seems to be durable, but I haven't had it that long. Clasp is easy to use.

Throwback Style, Modern Convenience, Ultimate Value
The Citizen Promaster Air Nighthawk Pilot - phew! - has presence, function and convenience. The icing on the cake is great value. At 42mm it's not for the timid, or those with the smallest wrist, but it wears well and looks great. Some may find the dial busy, and in fairness, it has a lot going on. What's that extra crown for? Why a rotating bezel? To break it down, it's a GMT watch. The small, inner dial on the left side has two small hands that can be set separately to a different time zone. One hand points to the inner numbers for hours 1-12. The outer hand, the longer one, points to the outer numbers for hours 13-24. Yeah, that's military time. Then there's the rotating bezel. Its basically the smallest slide rule (look it up) ever invented. You can do conversions like gallons to liters, or even multiplication. Frankly, it looks cooler than is functional. I played with it for a while and realized that it was so functional that if I didn't use it daily I'd never remember everything it was capable of. The manual is on the Citizen website. It explains it all. The date is readable, the lumen is adequate. The accuracy is typical quartz accuracy. Set and forget. Don't forget the Citizen Eco Drive solar charging. Just keep it in light and it's always powered up. This is the ultimate convenience that transcends plugging and charging. Eco Drive works as advertised. The bracelet is comfortable and provides adequate adjustment. The best part may be that it punches above its price point. Maybe you want to change it out, but I like mine as is. The water resistance is a solid 200m making the Nighthawk a true beach to boardroom piece. My version has the bezel crown at 7 o'clock. The newer version has the crown at 2 o'clock. There's not much difference between them. Is it perfect? Good question. By virtue of its rotating bezel it's a large watch. I consider the rotating bezel a style feature. I'll never use it. The GMT function is cool. Eco Drive is a no brainer. The Nighthawk can wear as a sporty accessory or as a dress watch. It's versatility is appreciated. Ultimately, though, it's a good value if you like the style and are looking for or will appreciate the GMT function. Watches these days are judged on how they make the wearer feel. The Nighthawk feels right for many occasions.

So far, better than expected!
Well... I'm wearing this watch now and have to say I really like it. Accuracy has been stunningly accurate (It's easy to set the second-hand accurately), as I synchronized it with an atomic-clock-set Casio about 3 weeks ago and the second hands are STILL in perfect synch. In addition, at least on my watch, the second hand is exactly aligned with the second-markings on the watch face. The Casio is also SOLAR POWERED, and that's a REAL benefit. It's the other major selling point for this EcoDrive Citizen. Wore my favorite old TAG Heurer dive watch for about 19 years. The batteries and service cost about $100 every couple or three years, and then TAG stopped supporting it altogether, effectively destroying it. To add insult to injury, TAG offered an insignificant discount off FULL RETAIL on a new TAG watch. Like anybody would pay full price in the first place. I'll never forgive them, and won't buy another TAG again for the shortsighted lapse. The markings on this Citizen glow brightly and last longer than the old TAG Heurer watch ever did but I still can't see the time during a movie that's approaching the 2-hour mark. If your shirtsleeve slips over the dial, you won't have much glow for practical use. It does look great, but the dial marks are more pronounced in person than it looks in the images here. It's no Breitling, after all, and the marks are more "lurid" than the image appears here. One cosmetic minus is the word, "NIGHTHAWK," written on the face. It's juvenile, frankly, and cheapens the otherwise excellent looks of the face. The European market version doesn't have that. Still haven't studied how to use the calculator in the manual, but it's there and I'm sure I can learn it if I take the time. The bracelet is EXCELLENT quality. Strong, heavy, well-made and secure on my wrist. Again, it's MUCH better than my old TAG dive watch (faint praise, but still!). The watch face is a bit larger than I expected but my wrist is big enough that it looks really great. Although the reason I was shopping for a watch in the first place is because I had some user-experience issues with my Casio Waveceptor (buttons too-easily reset the timezone when I moved my hand, and the resin wrist strap is irritating), the cosmetic appeal of this watch is undeniable. I feel great wearing it and find myself checking it out when nobody's looking! Can't think of a single practical reason to downgrade this watch, and if you like the looks and features, there's no reason you shouldn't buy it. If I lost it today I'd buy another. ------- UPDATE: Just wanted to mention that it's now February 8, 2011 and this Citizen watch is STILL entirely in synch with my trusty, atomic-clock driven Casio. The second-hands are exactly together, just as they were in December when I synchronized them. Pretty impressive...! UPDATE 2: Late May 2011 and the watch is still performing perfectly. It's survived some rough work during weekend home improvement projects... both crystal and metal bits are quite sturdy so far.

Citizen Nighthawk Is What I Have Been Looking For
Have been using this watch for a month, pretty happy with the purchase. Excellent buy. Highly recommended! Reasons for 5 star rating: 1. Classy and beautiful looking: It is one of the major reasons which have me made the purchase decision. It has a very classy and serous looking timepiece but with senses of modern technology design. I like the simple face layout and easy to read at any circumstance. Very solid build quality and has a perfect weight (personal favor) on my wrist. 2. Performance and accuracy: This watch runs very accurately so far, I have set this watch in matching with my atomic clock in home when I received it month ago. There is about 6 second ahead of my atomic clock in a month of period. So I can say, it is very accurate and well within manufacturer's +/- 15"/month SPEC. This is the another major reason for keeping make me happy after the purchase. 3. Easy setup and Eco-Drive performance: It is very easy to set up, even for two time zones because there are no too many other fancy features which are not that important to me. Solar battery charge seems very efficient since I never put it directly under the sunlight, it is mostly charged under the standard office light and it runs very smoothly so far. I understand it will take longer time to reach to its full charge. The quick start feature works very good, it only take about 5-10 minutes of normal room light charge to have this watch ramp up from stop to normal running. 4. Other useful features: Slide rule is useful under certain circumstance. I have to wear a pair of eye glass to take advantage of this feature if I need to. 5. Vendor performance: Amazon.com has been one of my most favorite online shopping places. Amazon did same great job on this transaction. Great pricing, on time delivery and, more importantly, Amazon is authorized Citizen dealer, so your watch is covered by the manufacturer's 5 yr warranty. Wonderful buy!!! 6. A few improvements which could make this product even better: * A power reserve gauge which shows the current reserved power level. * A non reflective sapphire glass instead of standard mineral crystal. 7. Other thoughts: Before I purchase this watch I also looked following related models: * Citizen CB0010-53L: which is an AT watch with 26 city world time and perpetual calendar. Local Costco (California) is selling it for $249.00/each which is the best price you can get for this unit. But Nighthawk has much better looking over CB0010-53L. * Citizen JY0040-59L: Blue Angels Skyhawk AT watch with 43 city world time, perpetual calendar and a lot other fancy features. It is a very nice timepiece I almost got that but it's face layout gets a little too busy and cluster and a $200 cost justification which hold me up. * Citizen AT4009-59L: Perpetual AT watch with 5 time zone (US, London plus one customer define zone) atomic time keeping accuracy, perpetual calendar, alarm and non-reflective sapphire glass. In addition, it is an "Eli Manning Limited Edition" (only 1000 pcs supplied globally). Current best retail $540.00/each from Macy's.com. This unit really looks great too. Planned to add this one into my collection by end of this year.

Great watch at a great price and should last you a very long time!
I bought this watch in 2013 and the other day the battery/capacitor FINALLY died. For $16 on amazon I bought a new one (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F1S2B8DG?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title) and replaced it in 5 minutes and it's back up and running for what I hope is another 13 years! Great watch. Keeps great time, is a conversation piece and just looks great overall.

Great watch!
Watch was a birthday present and so far I love it. I've had it for a week and everything seems to be perfect. Build quality is great, but I'm a bit spoiled by my Omega Seamaster, so I would give a 8/10 for overall quality. The -2 points goes to less comfortable bracelet than the Omega (not very fair considering the price difference). Without a reference, I think I might give a solid 9.5/10 Very easy to size the links, took me 10 minutes to adjust with just a hammer and a small pin. I have a very small wrist, so I've taken out all the links and it fits great. (6-6.25"?) Haven't tested with water, but not planning to swim or shower with it unless necessary. Watch wears a bit heavy, but that's what I prefer. Overall, elegant look and great build quality. can't go wrong with this piece.
