The part I love so much is that it doesn't need a battery! It keep perfect time and it is a beautiful watch.

I purchased this as a gift for my daughter and was concerned that the face would be too small based on other reviews. While I have progressive bifocals, it is the perfect size for an average woman/teenager's wrist. I can even read the date window in a well lit room/area without any issues. The face is easy to read and has a second hand (not sweep as this is quartz/solar). The hour markers and hands have luminous markers that glow pretty well once exposed to light. My daughter especially likes the band and said it looks pretty with the gold and brushed stainless. She was worried about a high polish stainless showing scuffing as she knows it will happen. Note: this watch is plenty large for women with larger wrists. While you can take it to a jeweler for $10 (or free if they're nice), you can purchase a $4 watch band kit and never have to visit a jeweler again. If you do, get one with a hammer and drift pins. The screw/twist ones break/bend the extraction pins easily. This band required removal of 6 links to fit my daughter's wrist (average size) and the pins holding the links together are split pins with a flanged end holding it in place vs. just friction (that's a good thing). It does not have any collets on it's links like some watch bands. Very easy to add/remove links if you have a drift pin/hammer set up. I especially like this watch has a 5 year warranty (longer than Seiko), is a solar charged watch and is prettier than most other brands even those costing 2-3x as much. Everyone I've ever talked with loves their Citizen. As this is the first "nice" watch for my daughter, I'm sure she'll enjoy it for at least 10 years barring a catastrophe. When she is older I'll get her something much nicer with a sapphire crystal. Meanwhile, I expect this one will be every bit as nice until that day comes.

Simple but elegant.

Really nice looking watch. I bought it for my wife. I had to take 4 links out, which I was able to do myself as I had the tools. There are Youtube videos on how to do this if you are mechanically inclined. The reason why I took a star off is you can't change the date by reverse winding the crown. This is really ridiculous and frustrating. The watch came with the date on the 5th and the current date was the 31st. You can do the math to figure out how many rotations I had to make to set the date properly. Why Citizen didn't put the reverse date setting function on this movement is beyond me. (It's been on every watch on earth for the last 30 years!) The date window, (like others have noted is nearly impossible to read) First, it's extremely small and second, it's black text on a grey background. I don't know why they didn't do the black text on a white background like the rest of the watch. The clock's black numbers on the white face are very easy to see and are just the right size for my wife. The watch keeps very accurate time and the solar rechargeable battery is what makes this watch great. (No need to change batteries) What ruins a lot of watches is taking the back off to change the batteries. Every time you do this, you expose the watch to airborne debris. I purchased this watch on Black Friday at a discounted price. If it were much more expensive, I would probably look for another watch because of the date issues. I would actually give this watch a 3.5 star rating if I could, but rounded it up to 4 stars as it is a really nice looking watch. The date window issues, however, really handicaps this watch. On the plus side, this watch is it is water proof down to 330 feet. You don't have to worry about swimming or going out in the rain with this watch. This watches waterproofing is much better than other woman's watches in this price range. If you can get past the date issue, this a really good looking watch that is accurate, highly water proof and never needs batteries.

Analog faces matter, pilots use analog clock image to identify location of obstacles or etc, as do the blind. And it matters to be able to picture time to tell time. Digital cripples the brain. This is a GREAT watch, metal band is comfortable , like the clasp, love the face. Keep making them Citizen.

I'm kind of a Timex Texan, wearing a watch for utility and accuracy, but their batteries always gave out and it was a pain (and expense) to replace them. I wanted what for me would be a "luxury watch" and I didn't want to keep trotting back to the jewelers to get a new battery. I fell in love with this Citizen the moment I spotted it online because of the style and the fact that this watch could be both gorgeous and readable, and the best part, the "Eco-Drive" would keep this watch running for years. It even says if I put it in a drawer for a while, it will still keep time for months! Pros: A clear face dial with nice numbers Gold and silver design, very elegant Bracelet band allows for true sizing Watch hands glow in the dark Has a Second hand Shows date Batteries not needed! Cons: I'm admittedly old, but the time and date is difficult for me to set, tiny increments in the stem befuddle me! Despite the one "con," I think this watch is absolutely beautiful and absolutely worth the price. In fact, I talked my husband into paying for it for our anniversary!

I purchased an ECO-Drive watch last Christmas for my husband and he loves it so I decided to buy one for myself when my swiss army watch died and could not be repaired. I am not an easy woman to hang out with if you are a watch. You need to be tough and ready to rebuild and refinish furniture, dig gardens and hammer and saw on any given day and then clean up and go out for fine dining and a show. The citizen EW1544-53A Eco drive fits the bill perfectly. Large clear black numbers are easy to read at a quick look, never needs another battery, and the two tones of silver and gold blend well with any jewelry. The size is also great, not a tiny "ladies" watch but also not a beefy hunk of metal weighing you down...Goldilocks would say "it is just right." The snap and pinch to open clasp was also a welcome addition and makes putting it on or taking it off so much easier. The date "box" is small and not easy to read but I would not mark it down for that, I want a watch for the time not the date.

The watch dial is easy to read. Time is accurate because it is a quartz watch with Citizen movement. Watch is powered by a solar rechargeable battery. One full charge can last for 6 months. It is no need to change battery unless the life of rechargeable is at its end. The rechargeable battery should last for a long time. The battery can be charged using sunlight or artificial light. The steel strap and case is beautiful made. It is very comfortable to wear. In short, it is a nice looking lady's watch.
