Review: Sensitivity tests - acceptable tolerance of 0.2g - (Full specifications included below.) I chose this scale because I wanted an inexpensive, compact scale with a high capacity and at least 0.1g accuracy, and because the reviews looked good. I intend to use the scale mostly for weighing small bubble-wrap mailing envelopes and small shipping boxes, but I will sometimes need to weigh herbal supplements, and I need those weights to be accurate to a tenth of a gram or so. I was not sure if a scale with such a high capacity would be sensitive enough to measure small changes in weight, such as when I add a tenth of a gram of herbs to the weighing platform, so I also bought American Weigh's Chrome-201 (200g x 0.01g). With its help, I conducted some tests. This scale does sometimes report 0.1g changes in weight, but not reliably. It usually requires a 0.2g cumulative change to update the reading, unless I press on the scale or lift and replace the weight, which causes the reading to update and reflect the 0.1g change. The scale does reliably detect 0.2g changes in weight, even when that weight is added very gently and gradually. This is true whether the starting weight is near zero or near 1000g. The scale cannot detect a total weight of less than 0.2g (this is listed in the specifications). The work-around is to use a tray and zero-out its weight with the Tare feature. This scale has an "acceptable tolerance" of 0.2g, so that is probably the reason for these behaviors. I conducted my tests using powder (gently sprinkled), an eye dropper of water, and shreds of paper. I verified the readings with the Chrome-201. Both scales seem to be accurately calibrated, and usually gave matching readings (though they were sometimes off by 0.1g). The Chrome, by the way, exhibits the same behavior of updating the reading typically only when the weight has changed by at least 2 increments (0.02g in that case), and it only reliably detects a total weight of at least 0.05g. I have a few minor problems with this scale. See the CONS section below. AWS Blade-1kg Specifications: -------------------------------------------- Max Capacity: 1000g Min Weight: 0.2g Units: gram, ounce, troy ounce, pennyweight Acceptable Tolerance: 0.2g Calibration Weight: 500g (the manual and the scale itself reported this, and I successfully performed the calibration) Recommended Accuracy Class: OIML M2 Power: 2 x AAA (included - be sure to remove the plastic tab between the batteries and the contact) Dimensions: 0.8" x 3.8" x 3.8" Platform Dimensions: 2.7" x 2.7" Made in China PROS: ---------- Seems accurate, both by comparing to the CHROME-201 scale (readings usually match, or are sometimes off by 0.1g), and by weighing US coins. Readings are also reasonably consistent. The case and lid make good trays, and the case (being taller) can serve as a standoff for large items that would otherwise obscure the readout. Seems sturdy and the build quality seems good (for a cheap scale). CONS: ---------- The bottom tray/case fits so snugly that I can remove the scale from it only by holding the case and striking the heel of my hand sharply against a firm surface to knock the scale out of it into my other hand. I do not like doing that with something so delicate. The top tray/lid does not protect the weighing platform from pressure. It fits right against the platform and the scale will report weight when I press moderately firmly on the lid, even near its corners. And even though the lid fits within the bottom portion of the case, it sits higher than the top of the case and so even the case will not protect the scale from things being set on top of it. The swing-out unit would be better if it could swing out all the way so that it would be less easily obscured by large objects on the scale. When testing the scale's ability to detect tiny changes in weight, I found that the auto-off will activate even when there are small (0.1 - 0.2g) changes being reported in the readout at least every ten seconds. I assume this is because the scale has a tolerance of 0.2g, and so changes by no more than this do not count in the software as activity. I can prevent this by pressing on the scale periodically.
Review: The Blade is one of the best scales at desertcart - First, let me preface this with two things: -#1: if you're in a hurry, if you like the way this scale looks and operates, go ahead and buy it with confidence in its accuracy, too. it's one of the best. -#2: I came to this scale because I needed certain features, and the reviews on most of the scales at desertcart leave me with contradictory quotes and no way to tell which one is the best. So, I bought the 7 scales that looked best to me, and I've used them all. This has given me some perspective on what is good or not good in these small form-factor scales. I'm reviewing those that I kept. So, on with the review... The Blade is so named because of the little section of the body which swings out to reveal the display and the operational buttons. It is held shut by a mechanism that locks or releases when you press it in, so shutting and opening "the Blade" involve the same motion: pushing in on the top of the swing-out "blade" section until you hear the "click-click" of its release or lock. When it swings out, it reveals the lighted display, the on/off button, the Tare button (for zeroing the display when you set an empty tray on the scale to hold more items), and the Mode button, which determines the units of measurement you prefer. Those units of measurement are shown below, along with their maximum reading on this scale: Gram: to a maximum of 100.00 g. Ounce: to a maximum of 3.527 oz. Grain: to a maximum of 1543.1 gn. Carat: to a maximum of 500.00 ct. Note that these are small weights, and while the scale is accurate to a hundredth of a gram, its small capacity makes it unsuitable for a general household scale. What weighs 100 grams or less? Three silver dollars, but not four. Three AA batteries, but not four. 52 Pepsid antacid tablets, but not 53. A small, glass (59 ml) Tabasco Sauce bottle -- empty, but not filled. About ⅞ stick of butter, but not the whole stick. A leather glove, but not a pair. 40 shiny pennies, but not 41. The scale is 3.75" square by .830" (13/16") tall. Metric dimensions: 95.2 mm square x 21.73 mm tall. With its lid on, it fits comfortably in your pocket. There is a 2nd tray/cover which will make it slightly larger, but I find it hard to get the scale out of that form-fitting square plastic cover, as there are no grooves or handles to grab it with. I'm fine without the big cover, but it's nice to have it as a tray for measuring larger numbers of pieces. Note: if you get the scale or its lid stuck in the larger cover, use a suction cup to pull it out. Don't bang it on the cabinet, for heaven's sake! For calibration, you will need a 100 gram scale calibration weight. Be sure to get it when you buy the scale, as it should be calibrated first thing. In tests with a half dozen different weights, after calibration the Blade nailed every one of them to the hundredth of a gram. (.00 in the case of these weights) That's very reassuring. It's the only scale I have that hit all the weights exactly on the mark, every time. The desirable features of this scale are its multiple units, it's small form factor, and its accuracy to 100th of a gram. If you want a scale to measure packages for figuring postage, this isn't going to help you much. But if you want to weigh small things like coins, beads, small pieces, spices in a recipe, sugar in a strict diet, or whatever you may have in mind that needs high accuracy and low capacity, then this is really a nice scale; one of the best. The marketing company which sells this Chinese device in America is AMS: American Weigh Scales, Inc., which is the company that sells most of the small scales that I actually like. The Blade is a very nice scale with no real downgradable issues, so I give it 5 stars out of 5. Treat it with care as you would any precision instrument, and it should last a long time.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Blade is one of the best scales at Amazon

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An absolute must have in the kitchen..
*by J***R on January 10, 2015*

I was looking for a small kitchen weighing scale for weighing my protein and all (I am into strength training etc and hence the need). After going through lot of reviews i picked this up and i am very happy with my choice. Pros -- -- Small and Compact. Nicely built and does not give you the feeling of a cheap product for the kind of money you pay for it at all. -- The reading guage very nicely slides out from the bottom and is nice and sturdy. Spring loaded and with click in place mechanism it feels solid and inspires confidence in operating it. -- The guage is bright blue in color and very clear to read (big fonts). -- Although this needs a calibration weight of 500 gms (didnt buy it) it comes pre caliberated and works great (i checked the weight of a quarter, dime and a penny and the weights were spot on). -- The plastic casing that it comes in doubles up as a weighing plate to weigh items. -- The batteries that came in with this have good juice in them and are not work out (not a big deal but that speaks about product quality still). -- some people have indicated that keeping stuff towards the guage side shows lower weight reading (since that "leg" of the scale slides outward as the reading guage. I did not find this to be true in my case. Cons -- I wouldn't call these cons but more of a concern: -- post weighing stuff i feel one has to be extra careful to lift the weight off the weighing plate since pressure on the plate may cause this to malfunction (maybe purely a figment of my imagination). Note -- i haven't used any of the "Tare" or various weighing units etc functions on this so cant say much about those. Conclusion -- From the perspective of a portable, no hassles, cheap and accurate weighing scale this thing would rank #1. Go for it by all means.
