No...just a big nice wood weighted set.

Are the dark pieces stained? In the photos, they look like they have a rather muddy stain that obscures the natural grain.

They are stained. It is a darker stain that shows some wood grain. Would not consider muddy or sloppy though. Even the lighter pieces show little grain on certain pieces in my set.

This is a very nice Board and Pieces combination! The pieces are weighted a bit! I did not originally buy this for the Pieces. Now after I've had it awhile, They actually kinda Grown on you! I do have a couple of planned pieces to be used with this board! It is an excellent BUY and The Pieces are Really MUCH BETTER Than what I had expected!
