Wegiel Handmade European Professional Tournament Chess Pieces With Wood Storage Case

my wife, while garage sale shopping with her sister, came across a very old looking table that was extremely dusty. Always one for a bargain and since she loves to restore wood items, she picked it up for just a couple bucks. My first opinion when she brought it home was, "please don't bring it in the house", but a few days later, after she cleaned it up, she did and I realized it was a chess table. After she spent a few hours cleaning it up, it was actually in pretty good shape, even though it didn't really match our furniture, we parked it by the entry way of our house (inside, mind you). After seeing the table my boys (17,14) went to the closet and found there old plastic chess set pieces and started to play (on the new table). After seeing this go on for the next week, I decided to purchase a better set of wood pieces that would look a little nicer than the plastic pieces they were using. I came across this set, it looked really nice, the price was right so i purchased it. It came super quick, thanks amazon, and it goes absolutely perfect with the table. Its been a few months and although they don't play as much chess anymore, maybe only once a week, I never put the pieces away in the nice little wood box they came in, nor do I put them in the chess table drawer, I leave them out on the table, all set up, waiting for the next match..... (they have been dropped a few times, nothing broken off, and we have tile in the entry, the pieces have a really nice weight to them, not heavy but definitely not light like they were cheap or anything, have had no issues with the underside felt neither....the detail is very nice, i have never purchased a set like this before and I am very pleased with the quality..)

I bought the No. 5 set with the 3.5 inch king with a 1.25 inch base. I think this size works well with 1.75 to 2.0 inch board squares. The pieces looked very nice, were symetrical, and not warped, like you sometimes get with inexpensive sets. They are felted and lightly weighted which is also a feature you dont' always get. The storage box was well made, jointed, glued and stained, but not lined with felt. The pieces fit lying down but not standing up. I did put felt pads on the bottom to keep it from scratching the furniture. I think this is a good set or general practice and playing and so on.

I started my chess collection many years ago. I own many sets made with crystal, glass, plastic, metal, marble and wood. This Staunton set is one of my favourites, considering their quality and the price. Excellent finished pieces, great size and weight. I only want to give 2 little recommendations to the manufacter: 1. To cover the inside of the box with the same felt used in the bottom of the pieces. This will protect them against scratches. 2. To improve a bit the finish of the box. However, without a doubt, I made a good purchase with this set... UPGRADE REVIEW A small but important detail that I noticed some days ago is that the cross of the dark King is not aligned, it seems like the Pisa Tower!!!

I recently purchased the Staunton chess pieces from Amazon. I evaluated this set of pieces using the following criteria and ended up rating this product at a 4 out of 5. I judged the overall quality of the pieces, the storage container, and the accuracy to the photos on Amazon. I recently made my own chess board and was looking for a nice set of wooden pieces to accompany the handmade board. I had never purchased chess pieces online before, so I was nervous to see how they looked in person. I was initially impressed when I opened the box. The wooden pieces are hand carved in Poland and look great. The detail isn’t out of this world, but they do have a nice weight to them. The design is pretty typical for wooden chess pieces, but they do look nice. If you buy this product, you will appreciate the fact that the pieces look exactly like the photos on Amazon, and the color accuracy is also a nice surprise. This set comes with a wooden storage box to house the pieces when not being used. This is a nice addition, although the wooden partition that keeps the two colors of pieces separate was loose and does fall out easily. This can be easily fixed with a little hot glue, so this was not a huge problem. I was impressed by the quality of these pieces, but disappointed with the storage box. If you can overlook the loose partition, this is a great set of chess pieces, especially considering the price. At the time of purchase, the list price was about $50, and they were on sale for a little under $30. This still seems to be the case months later at the time of this review. That’s a great price for a set of wooden chess pieces of this size and quality. These chess pieces would be a fantastic gift idea for beginners and experts alike. Not only are they perfect for those that play regularly, but if you are looking for pieces that look great just sitting on a chess board then this is the set for you. It can be difficult to find a nice set of pieces for a decent price, but they managed to deliver on this one. I hope you like these pieces as much as I do.

These are quite nice chess men. If you're wondering, they're all quite uniform (no obvious variances in shape or color, as I've seen in similar pieces from China) and they look classy. 🙂 The nice varnished wooden box also feels solid, not "cheap". They are weighted, although not heavily so; I kinda wish they were more solidly weighted but if you're used to cheap plastic chess men, then you'll love the "feel" of these pieces. They do not come with extra queens.

I whated a chess piece set to better match the size board I had this was a great solution at a great price.

The chess set came very promptly and was just as described. We bought it for our young grandson who's a keen chess player. The pieces are a good size - quite large - and weighted so that they don't fall over too easily. It was in perfect condition and we were very pleased with it. We bought a 40cm cardboard chess board to go with it and that seems to be a good size for the pieces.

The pieces I have received are amazing! Some people reported broken pieces, for me, they are almost all perfect, one of the queens' crown has a SLIGHT imperfection, but other than that, this is a WONDERFUL set! My previous set: I have bought a foldable set before. The set was like 75$, and the board didn't line up (slight left/right zigzag between rows 4 and 5, also resulting in the corners not matching when the board was opened...) Also wouldn't lay completely flat because the hinges were proud... which created a gap, on top of the above mentioned zig zag, between rows 4 and 5. And the pieces were horrible. Gawd they were horrible... Literally paper thin felts, and a disgusting, thick and porous varnish... Now, this set: I have now bought this piece set, and a Staunton 5 solid board along with it. The entire set was 120 (50 for these pieces and 70 for the board). This set is 100% a better bang for your buck. It's a little bit more money, but the craftmanship is on a whole another level!! I keep this new set on a display at all times now. Everybody that comes in comments on how good it looks! The pieces are nice, the finish is very good, not a thick and disgusting varnish like my previous set, they look really good! Also the felts are nice and thick (not always exactly centered though... but that's not a show stopper at all).

Buenas piezas para el precio que tienen, tamaño y acabado muy bueno. Después de mirar y devolver mucho me quedo con estas pot diferencia.
