Excellent resource
You have to be careful with this series, as there are several versions. I wanted the one from the 90s with Eugene Boring writing the commentary on Matthew. The book arrived on time in stated condition. As to the contents, his insight and writing style was exactly what I was looking for. I'm writing a Bible study on both Matthew and Mark, so I was also interested in the commentary on Mark by Pheme Perkins. I don't relate as well to her writing style, but her commentary is readable and from other books I have read by her, I expect the same high quality.

E M Boring's commentary on Matthew
These Commentaries provide a useful comprehensive format especially for those developing sermon material. Of course they are useful to anyone else as well. Boring has a plausible although somewhat speculative scheme for the author of Matthew's role in the writing of the gospel. That characterization is not meant to be pejorative, but instead recognizes the complexity of the mutual dependencies among the synoptic Gospels and the likely time frame in which Matthew was written. Along the way aspects of the community of the author (probably in Antioch) are explored.

A Valuable Introduction to New Testiment Scriptures and the First Two Gospels
This volume in the New Interpreter's Bible set provides comprehensive insight into the development of the New Testament scriptures. This is in addition to the critical analysis of the Gospels attributed to St. Matthew and St. Mark. The interpretive articles surrounding the texts make use of recent advances in studies of the available ancient writings and the cultures they arose from.

Excellent Research Tool
I recently purchased the New Interpreter's Bible: Matthew - Mark and find it to be an excellent research tool for the study the Gospels. I have purchased several other books but they pale in comparison with the insight I garner from reading this book. I am part of a Bible Study Group and we move very slowly and thoroughly through the Bible. There are twelve books in the series and I would highly recommend this book to amyone studying the Bible.

Fair perspective
Most of the different interpretations of various passages are provided with commentary. Perhaps ideas could be better justified, but that is difficult to do in a short work.

New Interpreter's Bible Matthew and Mark
This entire series of Bible commentaries are fabulous! I believe that they are the best that I have seen. They are a great resource to prepare for Bible studies or sermons and have a United Methodist leaning.
