It's a sort of bitters used in making cocktails, particularly test pilots. The recipes for falernum call for lime peel, but we have no idea how they make this, but it doesn't matter. It has the right slightly musty taste and mixes nicely with the lime juice and rum. (That's how we make our Test Pilots using Beach Bum Barry's recipe.) Falernum is surprisingly hard to find around here in Seattle. DaVinci, the local outfit that makes all those flavorings for coffee (e.g. hazelnut, passion fruit, vanilla) stopped making falernum a while back, so we had to scramble. DaVinci explained that there just wasn't enough demand, perhaps because it would taste completely awful in coffee. Luckily, the Fee Brothers make a great falernum. Give it a try at your next tiki party. Review: Spoiled product or new formula? - Product arrived very dark and foamy (see picture) It tastes acidic and not like the other bottles I received so far. I contacted Fee Brothers and they said NOT to drink it - there definitely is something wrong with the product. They are trying to work with desertcart to sell it directly to us so they can control the quality better.
