Safe in the Arms of God: Truth from Heaven About the Death of a Child

Contains Bible verses to support viewpoint
For sure hope, I believe having Biblical support is something we really need. I liked the author’s viewpoints and how he included Bible verses. While I believe infants are saved from God’s wrath, I still was uncertain with some of the author’s views for some of the verses he picked in this book to support his views. For the most part, I do agree and recommend this book if wanting to look into this topic. One thing I do also recommend if looking into this topic is Mike Winger’s YouTube video where he talks about infant salvation and talks about the Bible too. I think the video was much more reassuring, but at the same time, I still recommend this book.

Best Book on the Topic
I am quite sure that if one was to scroll through the reviews for this book, one would find a wide array of opinions. Anything from utter hatred to sheer delight. That said, I am quite disappointed in those reviewers who said such caustic things concerning the author of this book. John MacArthur has served the Lord for more years than most of the reviews have been alive and yet they seem to think that they have the inside track on God's mind. That said, I am very pleased to recommend this wonderful little book. John MacArthur does not approach any writing opportunity lightly and this is certainly the case here. My wife and I recently said goodbye to our first child before it was born. We got the heart wrenching news when our child was at 15 weeks. I will never forget the whirlwind of emotions that my wife and I experienced as we were in the labor and delivery room for 18 hours waiting for our deceased child to be born. We had been praying for years that the Lord would bless us with a child and then once my wife finally did get pregnant, the child didn't live anymore than fifteen weeks. It is in times like that that the Christian needs the unshakable stability of God's Holy Word. I am a pastor and the people in our church were looking very closely at us during this situation to see how we would handle it. After all, I have always counseled the people of our church to trust the Lord and be in His Word when the trials come. Now they wanted to see if we practiced that same counsel. John MacArthur's careful exposition of God's Word and His graceful presentation of the truth it contains was a wonderful help. It is abundantly evident that John cares and infinitely more evident that our God cares. Every pastor and every Christian needs to own this book. There are times when we need to be reminded that God is gracious and good and kind and He knows what He is doing. Thank you Pastor MacArthur for sharing your pastor's heart in this way and for looking solely to the Word for your guidance.

What Happens to Little Ones?
What happens to infants and children when they pass? Since all people are born into sin and with a sin nature, how are they affected? MacArthur does an excellent job here of bringing Scriptural light to these questions. With pastoral compassion yet a focus on candid Biblical truth, MacArthur excels at presenting what the Bible has to say on the matter. This work is especially helpful for believers with a Reformed outlook on total depravity and Divine election. It provides insights not only to families who have lost small children, but to pastors and Christian leaders who minister to them. I've read several books by this author, and this one offers the best combination of pastoral compassion and Biblical truth. Highly recommended.

Scripture Based Hope
This book ministered to me in a profound way after the death of my infant son William. I wasn't comfortable resting on the worldly platitude that "your child is with God" or "your baby is in Heaven" - I didn't know what the scriptures said about the the eternal fate of those who died without the ability to understand the Gospel. I don't believe deceased loved ones become angels, and I didn't know how to think about the eternal implications of my son's death. I didn't want to - and couldn't - live with assumed truth or uncertainty. John MacArthur adeptly walks through scripture, pointing out God's love for little ones gone too soon, and His desire to gather them to Himself. MacArthur's words are comforting, and rely heavily upon scripture and his extensive knowledge of who God is to give great hope for eternal life.If you are questioning the fate of those who died without being capable of understanding the Gospel, this is an excellent read.

Pie in the sky teaching
not everyone will agree with his conclusions that everyone up to the age of accountability is heaven bound regardless of religion or lack of. the author doesn't have a known conversion in his personal life and so this probably affects his theology. age of accountability in usa society is 17 & under (juveniles). what does childhood age of accountability have to do with salvation anyway? the real age of accountability is the day God saves you regardless of what age you are. MacArthur appears to be teaching "decisional regeneration". i am giving this book 5 stars because it is interesting reading & not that i agree with it.

Great book - answered a lot of questions
A lovely book for anyone struggling with child loss. Deals with subject very compassionately. Answers a lot of questions regarding children using scripture. I cannot sympathise with child loss personally (Thanks be to God) but it equips me with knowledge for future and for talking to friends and family, and answered a lot of questions I have as a mother for my own child. Quite a short book. I think it is good for all Mothers to read, whether your children are still on Earth or in Heaven.

A must for anyone in ministry
I read this first when it was given to me by a friend who lost a baby at birth. I myself had just experienced a stillbirth, it was so full of biblical help.. Although some of the passages MacArthur refers to, I'm not convinced are actually talking about infants (ie theose in sodom & Gomorrah who do not know their right from the left), nevertheless, it is so moving and healing to see how much the bible does talk of the unborn and infants - and what real hope there is that they are taken to be with Jesus, because of His saving work on the cross. I have given it to many friends who have lost children and/or miscarried.I am now reading it again as I face the hard reality that the baby I am carrying will certainly die before, during or immediately after birth. This is a must read for anyone in ministry. My husband is in theological education - and I recommend it as a must read to his students and their wives. Sadly, you will come across people who need the truth of this book, do get it and read it now!
