As a standalone novel, Son of Perdition (book #3) holds up, as in, you could read it first in the series and not be too lost on the story.The major difference between this book is that you MUST read the book before it or you will lose so much buildup and context. So as a standalone adventure, this one doesn't have it's own legs, but instead it has wings! Because the last book was building so much this one is twice as fast and is twice as exciting.At the opener, we are finally given closure to the aforementioned cliffhanger. The subsequent chapters give you a small breather before the rest of the book pulls you into a nefarious plot of world domination by the Antichrist his notorious Mark of the Beast. That is where this story takes a major turn. Instead of being your run-of-the-mill End Times story, Alec puts an outlandish spin on the Mark, but thanks to some foreshadowing - even as far back as book #1 - this idea works. I can't imagine it going any other way in the story that she has crafted. Where will the 5th book go from here? Thanks to another terribly awesome ending, the wait is absolute torture. I am pulling my hair at the thought of waiting more than a year to see what happens next.Wendy Alec not only outdoes herself in this 4th installment, but she sets the bar so far above its predecessors that only a Higher Power can impart the wisdom to top this one! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Spectacular *by J***E on July 30, 2014* I recently became aware of Wendy Alec's work. I have now read five of her books, and I can honestly say that she is a masterful story teller.. She weaves a tale so fantastic that it felt like I was actually experiencing the events or at least was a nearby spectator. From the First Heaven, to the streets of Cairo, the story was totally captivating. She is able to weave facts and information, which then flows smoothly. As a physician, I found the scientific information completely credible. I have truly been blessed by her novels. As a Christian, these novels have helped solidified my faith. I recently experienced a bereavement, just before I discovered her novels, and I can honestly say, that it has helped to greatly diminish my grief. I am a great fan of the great Christian apologists, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien and Ms. Alec's Chronicles of Brothers, is comparable to their work. My faith, is even more resolute. I highly recommend Ms. Alec's The Chronicles of Brothers. Very enjoyable, exciting and totally credible. I am so very grateful for the gifting of GOD in Ms. Alec. Brava. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A really great read by a brillant author (Don Reichenbach Sr.) *by D***R on June 2, 2013* I definitely enjoyed Chronicles of Brothers-A Pale-Horse. Ms. Alec's development of how the Anti-Christ may chose to creditably explain the disappearance of Christians during the rapture, as well as disguising the administration of the "mark" as a critically needed vacine are truly brillant. I also recognized so many parrallels between the awful acts of the current US administration and those of the ficticous Anti-Christ: maintaining lists of enimies of the state, and using them to plan to execute or render them harmless. The US Government purchase of one billion rounds of hollow point ammunition, is nearly exactly covered in the book. The author's treatment the religous characters and their auras is truly excellent. There were few annoyances: a broad cast of characters caused me to often refer to the list in the front of the list in the front of the book, and the delay in publishing date caused me to cancel until a friend reminded me.
