Make sure you have chosen the correct key for the application.
I liked the sheer key because it worked. I didn't install the original correctly or it was wearing wrong. I didn't put it in correct. I replaced the alternator on my riding mower which means removing the flywheel. When I installed the flywheel back into place, I didn't tap the key all the way down until the key seated. I tried to start the engine and bang. The key split and then the flywheel was allowed to float around the shaft and would not start. I installed the new key correctly and it runs like a charm.
