Got what I expected.

Loved Beth Gibbons, her voice showing emotion as if she was in the Warsaw ghetto.

Beth Gibbons voice is so full of pain in this recording, so other worldly, stretched yet never broken. A performance of voice and orchestra that just takes ones breath away. Impossible to ignore, the three movements, so beautiful in their longing and regret, soar and swirl as Penderecki matches the torment of the vocals. It is, after all The Symphony of Sorrowful Songs.Buy this. It'll never be forgotten once listened to.

Having listened to Dawn Upshaw’s vocals on original version, found Beth Gibbons vocally a bit disappointing. This is only my opinion, others may prefer it. Recording quality is excellent.

I bought this as I love Beth's work and especially her voice from folk and trip hop albums. It was intriguing to find out whether or not she could do justice to this most emotive of all musical compositions. The short answer is "yes" she does. Her range, especially in the high register, is amazing. The emotion she conveys is chilling. Wonderful music, beautifully and respectfully sung, for special moments.

I was very keen to hear this version of Gorecki (3) and wasn't disappointed. My first mail-order vinyl for many years. Arrived a day earlier than scheduled and was left with a neighbour. Arrived in perfect condition. Warm & well balanced vinyl sound quality with a download code for portable digital listening.

What did I like? Beth's wonderful voice gives me the shivers. This is a refreshing rework of this symphony and the vocals puts the magic back into something I've loved for many years.

Beth Gibbons is no opera singer but she sings with emotion and feeling; this work is hauntingly beautiful and absolutely superb

Amazing album, Beth Gibbons does a great job. Don’t listen to the bad reviews about her. While she is not a classically trained singer, the feeling and emotion in her voice more than makes up for it.

If you like Gorecki, this is a very good, well recorded and well played version of his Symphony #3. Heavy duty music with much pain and joy.

Sicher, die dritte Symphonie von Henryk Gorecki ist nicht jedermanns Geschmack. Klassikhörer werden die Aufnahme eintönig finden und das eine Trip-Hop Sängerin den Gesangspart übernimmt als Verstoß gegen die guten Sitten werten. Wer sich aber auf die Musik konzentriert wird eine einmalige Erfahrung machen. Klassik die kein bisschen angestaubt daher kommt und es wagt in Sphären vorzuwagen, wo sonst populäre Stilrichtungen den Ton angeben, ist für den aufgeschlossenen Musikfreund etwas Wunderbares, ich möchte fast sagen Göttliches.Noch ein Wort zu der Vinylausgabe, die mir vorliegt. Die Pressung ist erstklassig, ein Booklet mit dem Polnischen Text liegt bei und die Platte ist in einem Antistatischen Sleeve gut aufgehoben.
