I filled this thing with tiny objects, held them down with museum wax, and put it up on my wall with some shelving hardware. You can paint or stain the wood, and the glass, while not heavy duty, is at least not super-thin. Very pleased.

I bought 2 of these for the smaller specimens in our rock collection. The outside and inside are built very nicely. They have a simplistic beauty that adds to the shelf they sit on. Fit all the rocks that needed a new home with ease including the larger specimens.

Item not deep enough for larger beads. Great for making earrings with smaller beads. Good for traveling.

I had an old box similar to this only it was finished in a dark stain and had a felt lining. This one is unlined, but it's ok as long as you don't expect the items to be moving around a lot. Which is why I rated it low for traveling (as well as the glass top). It would be ok if it was laid on a back seat of a car and protected from falling off during a sudden stop. But - I bought it to showcase my rock and mineral collection - it works fine, I keep the more delicate crystals in my felt lined box.

I'm a cabinetmaker and i just want to say i am pleased with the box. i was hoping the compartments were extra big and they are. this is actually a really good value for the money. the dividers are sturdy wood also. the glass is heavy and sturdy too. I'm very happy with this.
