Always ready for a Tale of Valdemar!
These Tales of Valdemar anthologies are always a good read. The only reason I don't give them 5 * is because they generally contain at least a tale or two that to me doesn't seem to catch the essence of Valdemar. Sometimes I don't feel like the author of those tales understands Valdemar and its inhabitants. No True Way contained a couple of gems. One of the standout stories for me was A Brand from the Burning by Rosemary Edghill and Rebecca Fox which featured a young Solaris learning from her mentor Hierophant Virtulias who foresaw she could be important in future for Karse. That wasn't the point of the story but it enhanced it for me.Mercedes Lackey's contribution in this volume "Vixen" had a Healer coming in contact with Herald-Mage Vanyel. Once again not the main point of the story but an interesting feature of it.There were other good ones as well. I read these over a period of time when I need something that won't take long to read so the two mentioned were the last in the book so freshest in my mind.

Great addition!
This is the 8th anthology collection in the companion Valdemar series, the stories written by a wide variety of authors. All of the stories are set within the greater Valdemar world, bringing together old characters with new. Some of the stories form mini-series with stories by the same authors in other books of the series. While not necessary for the overall series, they are a fun addition to the world.

Another charming anthology about Valdemar
Another charming anthology about Valdemar and the world that Valdemar is in. This fifteen story book mixes works by experienced authors with works by fans to make a high-quality anthology with no weak link in the stories. Well written and fun, the Valdemarian fans will appreciate the magic of this book.

Only four stars - reason below
Mercedes Lackey was great! Just what youwould expect from an experienced author, but some of the other stories, while enjoyable, just weren't as polished as one would wish.

Huge recipe for wonder
As usual. Mercedes Lackey has gathered a group if imaginative authors to expand on her own magnificent world. It's always fun to see where one author will take another's world vision. I do so love Valdemar!

Great way to find new authors in this genre.
I love most of Mercedes Lackey's books, especially the Valdemar series. I really enjoy the Tales of Valdemar books because it helps me find new authors as well as just plain being enjoyable. I found Mercedes Lackey while reading the Sword & Sorceress series (Marion Zimmer Bradley series) some years ago, and I have read almost all of her books since then. I keep on buying them because I know I'll have something good to read. Since I am no longer employed and am a fast and dedicated reader, I can average a book a day, so finding a new author is a great thing for me. A new book by a favorite author is always a welcome event as well. Thank you, Mercedes Lackey, for the many hours of pleasure you have given me. Please keep writing. Looking forward to Tales #9.

Some really good stories - one really, really, bad ending
I enjoyed the short stories in this book EXCEPT for "Written in the Wind" by Jennifer Brozek. I DO NOT read about Valdemar to come to the end of a complete story and find my self left with an ending that is essentially "and evil triumphed". If I want that kind of downer I'll look at real life. All tales of Valdemar include dark happenings as well as light -- but none of the others I've read -- and I've read them all -- have left me with that kind of depressed anger. I will know, now, to avoid any future short stories by this author and I'll more carefully consider the way I read future anthologies.

Valdemar Stories Are The Best
I love the Valdemar novels, but I like the Valdemar anthologies just as much. It is fascinating to see how other authors approach the Valdemar world. Mercedes Lackey does a wonderful job of editing. There are very few stories that don't catch my interest. Having read several anthologies in a row recently, I noticed that some of the stories carry forward a plot line from previous anthologies. That is both satisfying and makes me wonder what I missed from previous books. Anyway, if you love Valdemar, you'll love this set of stories, too.

All the stories were good, some just needed a bit more to them
Another visit to the Valdemar country. All the stories were good, some just needed a bit more to them, some would make a good start to a full story in the series. Enjoyed this but felt that some of the stories needed a bit more to them
