This speaker pair accepts a line level input directly from a preamplifier or computer mini-jack, then utilizes a built-in AC powered amplifier to produce sufficient volume. The sound quality is nothing to write home about but is a significant improvement over the built in speakers on my MacBook Pro, even the new 2018 model. These lightweight speakers provide fair bass response, adequate midrange, and fair high end. At fifty bucks apiece, you shouldn't expect reference quality bookshelf speakers, and these can sound a little muffled at times unless you equalize them considerably to get an improved balanced output. The cables included with the setup are the AC cord (two prong, without any transformer outside the speaker), a pair of speaker wires to go from one speaker's input to the other's output, and a mini jack cord leading to an RCA pair that inserts into the speaker for input. If you're coming from a standard preamp, a pair of RCA patch cables will do the trick. DJs will definitely appreciate the lightweight quality of these speakers if they do a lot of trips from car to location but if that's the plan, you'll want a carrying case for these as the woofer has no grill or other protection from the elements. For that purpose, I'd rather see a lightweight aluminum framework across the front of the speakers. I marked down the entire package by a star because the provided mini jack cord leading to the RCA pair was junk. It shorted across my MacBook Pro's output, causing my Mac to act irrationally and the speakers to buzz and otherwise protest. I replaced this cable with a gold-plated equivalent that I got at Radio Shack many years ago, and all worked well.

I enjoyed the first year of using and listening through these two speakers, clear, high quality, and great sound. However, the next year started with noise in the left speaker that kept getting worst till I shut it down. Now. I'm using one speaker and it's doing great but it's not what I paid for. Trust me, there's no gentler usage than mine. Thank you for an awesome one year.

Every time I wanted to practice a drums lessons, I don't like the sound coming out from the speakers, I cannot hear my play, I go back to headphones untill I realised the 2nd speaker is totally off and not working

There's a definite difference speakers and monitors - for my home studio project I got myself a used Macbook Pro running Logic Pro X on it, instruments with an external sound card, and these monitors. My friends and I can jam for hours and this new set up really kicked it up a notch, the sound is fantastic for our purposes. Make sure the wires are inserted completely in the red/black sockets.
