This man was a genius and quite an inventor
Before I read this book, I knew very little about Ub Iwerks. He and Walt started out as a 2 man team originally. Ub, a talented artist transitioned to inventing all kinds of equipment that revolutionized the art of animation as well as many of the mechanical systems required for The Disney Company.Don, Ub's son, does an excellent job of chronicling his father's creative genius as well as providing a huge pictorial history of the animation process and development during his life. This is a large coffee table worthy book with plenty of pictures and explanations for any Disney enthusiast.

An insiders view of backstage Cinema and Special effects for Disney fans!
This is a really well done history of the Disney legend Ub Iwerks! As told by another Disney legend Don Iwerks, it was my good fortune to work with and know Don at Imagineering. Don is simply a gentleman and a consummate contributor to the Theme Park industry bar none! I highly recommend this book for your Disney collection! You will discover the inside story behind many of the Disney films and attractions you’ve come to love!

Ub Iwerks
Who ever heard of him? We've been at WDW Florida since it opened, but I'm happy to know more about Walt and the people/artist who helped spread the World of Disney. I'm looking forward to a deeper read of this book and to discovering more about Ub; his contributions were a part of Disney's dream and I'm anxious to know more.

The Story That Continues To Be One Of Importance To The World.
What a terrific book! I had placed an order for this marvelous retrospective way back on July 17th 2017. Many of you will readily recognize that date as it is an important Disney anniversary. It wasn't planned, but I mention it as having significance none the less. Yes, it is the anniversary of the original Disneyland Park and Ub Iwerks played a central role in early park attraction development. The book is a tribute to but a few of the many innovations that continue in-use to this very day. Anyway...I patiently waited all of that two and one half years for it's release. Now it's more than 2 1/2 years, and while it may seem that patience was my friend, it's really only the relevance of this story that was paramount and of course my own faith in it's release one day. Ha ha! Within this story (save Walt Disney's own), is found the single most significant piece of history in the Disney Company's founding. I feel confident that if we do more than give lip-service to the phrase "it all started with a mouse" then ipso-facto we must also agree that the life of Ub Iwerks more than anyone but Walt Disney himself was a marker in history, that made Disney a household name the world over. It was he after-all who contributed the characteristics and early images of said Mouse. On top of that, you add the many contributions technically speaking that we're developed by this man on his own, or as the central player and you have an unparalleled life that was until the last few decades somewhat overlooked in terms of contributions. Now is the time we further acknowledge his legendary status as a primary contributor to The Walt Disney Company. I'm sure he is full of pride wherever he is watching over his family, that he is still relevant to history. Ultimately, isn't that what we all hope for? That our lives are important and of service to our fellow man? In this book we find a man that unwittingly helped found a company but more importantly helped to create smiles on faces around the globe! That's the lesson I personally felt about the life of Walt Disney. That it was those smiles that confirmed success. This book tells a story, and as such should not be underestimated. There are a couple of fine books out there written in part or wholly by members of Mr. Iwerks own family along with an associated documentary. This one adds more warmth I found missing in earlier iterations, the occasional use of "Dad" and "Father" adds much. In my opinion, that the Disney Company made Mr. Iwerks also a Disney Legend is an example that it's always better to err on the side of history. Because along with "It all started with a mouse" is also one that Napoleon once said, 'What is history, but a fable agreed upon?” Now is the time that a story that was made "fable" is now agreed upon. Celebrate the story of Mr. Iwerks through the eyes of his loving son. Add this book to your library and you'll again honor the creation of a certain Mr. M. Mouse that inspires smiles everywhere he appears in whatever the language. His contributions are such that they will live on for many millennia to come, from now and when we reach toward the stars. I'm sure he's up there somewhere looking over his posterity. Now that's some contribution! I'm smiling now, can you tell?
