Great snaps......if you have a bench press
I bought these snaps not realizing that they were different from the snaps of the same size that you purchase in craft stores. After being used to snaps that I could easily install using a flaring tool and hammer or light duty snap pliers, I was very surprised to find that these snaps cannot be installed that way. Ideally, you will need a heavy duty bench press, which is very expensive, to install these snaps. I wish this had been included in the description. After receiving the snaps, I purchased a heavy duty snap plier installation tool that does sort of work, but it is still very hard to roll the stud post enough so that the snap will actually snap. I'm trying to exchange these for a set of brass snaps, but in the meantime, I find myself behind schedule on the project I was trying to finish and potentially out forty bucks since these snaps don't really work without a bench press. I will say that the snaps seem to be very high quality (hence the four stars), but I thought I would post a review to try and save others the hassle I'm going through right now by clarifying that these snaps are probably not a good choice if you are a hobbyist that does not want to invest in an expensive tool to install the snaps.

To hard
Hard to set pounded on them would not roll. Got a 2 lb deadblow hammer and the stem split on alot of them when I could get them to roll down they were fine to much waste

Not for łhick leather
I used this on veg tanned leather, I had to thin it the depth of paper to use them, definitely intended for fabric only. But beautiful product with a strong snap.

Snap is not Stainless Steel.
False advertising! Snap is not Stainless Steel. Not recommend to use in salt water environment. See pictures of stainless steel screw vs Stimpson snap.

Excellent matte black snaps; NOTE: stud for cap is only 3/16"
These snaps are of very good quality - perhaps a half star better than the somewhat similar ones sold by Tandy. The finish is a very matte black and would be excellent if you're looking for a very subdued appearance for hunting or military-type gear.Be advised that the working length of the stud of the cap is only 3/16" while the stud for the male side of the snap is 1/4". 3/16" is a great length for a single thickness of heavy nylon webbing and just barely long enough for 8-9 oz. leather (like usually used for belts and heavy straps). In the case of 8-9 oz. leather, there's just enough stud to get a light roll of the end of it, but not quite as much as I personally prefer. This said, I've installed a number of these on this sort of leather and they're holding up fine.I mis-set one of them (completely my error; not the snap's fault) and had to drill out the rolled end of the stud. I can confirm that they are indeed solid brass.Price seems a bit high initially, but per snap set it is about $0.32 which is still cheaper than other options which are not dark matte black.Lastly, given the quite expensive shipping charge ($12) for the size and weight of the package, the seller, Stimpson, sent it by regular USPS, so it took 7 days to get them.
