On my 3rd one - very happy with it.
I'm having problems with other reviews because I am on my 3rd one and love this bird feeder. None of the roofs ever blew off and they are hung in a windy area that makes them swing frequently. They are not built to last a long long time but truthfully I could have used them more than a year. I've bought more expensive that have come apart quickly. These haven't really fallen apart, more like they just get weathered and dirty. All bird feeders with suffer from weather, poop, and use and but this one does an adequate job. I too have seen one bird get trapped in the empty suet feeder but it was able to get itself out. After 3 years - just one young bird is not anything to worry about. You won't have to "rescue" them. All in all I'm very pleased with the feeder and hate to read all the neg. reviews.

Great bird feeder
This bird feeder has everything -- two racks for suet feeding as well as a large capacity for sunflower seed, etc. I needed a feeder that could be installed on a post, since a bear ripped my old one off and destroyed it! My new one is very attractive and well-constructed and was one of the few feeders I found that could be post-mounted (as well as hung from a tree or stand). The great price was another consideration. If this one is destroyed by a bear, I will not have spent a King's Ransom on it and won't feel bad about replacing it!

Good feeder with 1 easily fixed flaw
I got this feeder because it supposedly holds 5lbs of seed and has suet holders. I have weighed how much seed it will hold with my postal scale and it only holds about 4-4.5lbs of seed. The only other problem with it is that it does not have a hook to hang it with. It comes with a short rope with a not in the end.I live in a second floor apt and wanted to make sure that it did not come undone. What I ended up doing was undoing the not and then retying it around a dog leash hook. I then hot glued the rope so that it would not come off. It works really well this way. I was getting several big flocks of small birds coming to my feeder every day and at least 5 male cardnels and a woodpecker. I was having to fill this feeder up every 36 hours they were eating so much. It did take some of the birds a while to learn how to eat from it since the perch is so close to the hopper. After about a week the cardnels learned how to eat and the woodpecker showed up not long after that. I find that the birds spill a lot of seed with this which I think they do on purpose. I have birds eating from the feeder and from the ground at the same time. At times there is a big line for the birds to eat. I have also found that only about 2 birds will eat from the same side at a time because of space. It is really easy to fill this feeder up The top lifts up easily and I can fill it with my 3 quart scoop (from a local farm feed store). I would say that this feeder holds about 3 quarts of seed maybe a tiny bit more.

Good bird feeder
This is a pretty basic cedar bird feeder. So far it's lasted 6 months and hasn't broke, although I haven't had any issues with larger animals trying to get at it. Holds a fair amount of feed (enough to last weeks), and it looks better then a lot of the cheaper or overly unnatural looking feeders that are common. My only real complaint is the short/cheap rope it came with. Replaced that with a longer/more durable nylon rope I had and it's held up great!

Piece of junk
Save your money! This item is very poorly made. In fact, it was broken when it arrived. It was shipped in a huge box and was rattling around, although I don't think that caused the two little triangle pieces under the roof (not visible in photo) to come off. They were nailed on with tiny nails that did not do the job. I kept the feeder and glued these back in place. However, overall the quality is very poor and it isn't carefully put together. The edges are very rough--I don't know if birds get splinters, but I will have to be careful when filling it so I don't get any. Also, it does not come with a hook, only a knot at the end of the rope, so you will need some kind of hook to hang it. Finally, because it is suspended by a single rope, it spins in the wind and every time a bird lands on it. I regret the purchase but was anxious to feed the birds so I kept it anyway. I cannot recommend this product; spend a little more for a good quality feeder, or a little less for a plastic one!

Nice feeder - but the hanger stinks.
I really like this feeder because it holds suet and seed and is well made. It's a good design and cedar wood is always a nice choice. It has real glass in it - not plastic and though I usually would prefer glass it is problematic for this feeder because the "hanger" really stinks. It comes with a twine rope pulled through the hole in the roof and the top part (where you hang it) is just a knot. What's with that? The first time a squirrel lands on this, this feeder is doomed and I'll be picking glass up out of my yard. Trust me, I have a lot of feeders and a lot of experience with the trio of squirrels that terrorize my yard. If I don't come up with another way to hang this, it will become decoration. My squirrels can chew the tops off of feeders, disassemble them, and generally rip them apart. A feeder similar to this (a round, cedar, cathedral looking one - expensive) lasted 4 hrs. A real shame.

WELL MADE AND EASY TO CLEAN
I was amazed at how well this product was made just because of the price. I would have thought it would be rather cheap and unfinished. I was wrong, way wrong. So I am glad I listened to the reviews and my gut. The birds are already coming to it and it has not been that long. The two sided suet cake is what sold me on the product and no regrets with that either. You can tell it will be easy to clean also. With a double sided one I can attract a even more diverse flock of birds. Word is getting out on the wire though because the birds are coming more and more and fast and faster. The rope is strong and very sturdy- that will last. I am just very impressed by this. I having been eyeing some for a time now but hated the price. Glad I kept looking until I found thisTHANKS FOR MAKING A GREAT PRODUCT AND FOR SELLING IT AT AN HONEST PRICE

Great feeder! Attracts lots of chickadees and I even had a large red headed woodpecker come to my window for the seeds! (Costco birdseed) That was really exciting to see up close. Also had a flicker and the little juncos would hop underneath for the fallen ones. The squirrels unfortunately can jump really high and were able to make a mess and knock the roof slightly. The roof is only held in by staples so not very sturdy.

Not a great design
This product will work fine but there could be some design improvements. The single string in the Center causes it to spin when a bird lands on it. A string design coming from both sides across the top would prevent that. The lid is just lose, there are no internal stoppers that help it stay in place (I had to glue several popsicle sticks inside). The hole at the base for the seeds to trickle out into the small ledge are too large and seeds spill out too fast. The suet holders at the sides don’t seem to be a standard size, I have to jam the cakes in a bit. Overall it’s made from cheep wood. My last wood feeder lasted being outside 24/7 for about 5 years. This one will be lucky to last 2 yrs
