Reaching back 40 for 60
Unlike arty and bombastic visual spectacles of artists like U2, REM or Pink Floyd, an Elton John concert on video is a pretty pedestrian affair. Always has been, and "Elton At 60" is no different. Having said that, Elton connects with his songs, leaving lights and other optic doo-dads to serve as mere window dressing for the words and melodies he and lyricist, Taupin, have crafted for 40 years. This show was recorded in March 2007 to mark Elton's 60th birthday, and his sixtieth show at Madison Square Garden in New York. An Elton concert doesn't quite have the pep and fire of show he did even ten years ago, but the result is a performance that more closely mirrors the pacing of the album version of these songs. In THREE and A HALF hours, most of the hits are here, of course, with some notable exceptions. His hits alone could fill that time, but what makes this collection worth having is Elton's revisit of classic album tracks like "Ballad of Well-Known Gun", "Roy Rogers", "Hercules" or the transcendant "High Flying Bird". Whether you're a completist, or thinking of venturing into an Elton live video for the first time, you should find the set compelling. The hit factor is one thing, but it's the album tracks that remind one of why this guy made such an impression and why he is still relavant sixty years on.

Brilliant & Worth Every Penny! (note: this review contains the corrected track listing)
hello to anyone reading this! I am a old-school, die-hard Elton fan; my first concert ever was the legendary Elton John show at Madison Square Garden on November 28, 1974 - Elton's special guest that night was John Lennon (in what turned out to be Lennon's final-ever performance on a live concert stage). In the 30+ years since then, I've seen Elton at MSG many many many times - and I was there on 03/25/07 when Elton celebrated his 60th birthday. I'm proud to be writing the first Amazon review of this amazing DVD/CD set. For hard-core fans like me, seeing him play old rarely-performed album tracks like "High Flying Bird", "Where To Now, St. Peter?", "Ballad of A Well Known Gun" and "Hercules" was a thrill and a treat. My friends and I were seriously hoping that the ENTIRE 03/25/07 concert would be released on DVD. Well, this box set contains the ENTIRE 03/25/07 concert ... and more! The whole thing is completely butt-kicking and if you're a fan of the man and his music then this is a must-have box set. Here's the complete, correct listing of everything contained on all 3 discs:

One Word - Fantastic!
This exclusive package is absolutely brilliant. Not only will you have a ball watching Elton simply on fire at his 60th, the amazing extras make this package far superior to other Elton DVD's. You simply must see someone saved my life tonight at the Edinburgh Playhouse Theatre in which elton gives a stunning highly emotional version of the song. And also a touching rare version of We all fall in love sometimes/ Curtains (MSG, 2005) dedicated to Bernie. The sound quality of the concert is superb and you will have a blast powering up the home theatre! The HD camerawork is great, so many angles, so many close-ups of Elton's legendary piano work and the detail is extraordinary you can't get any closer, even if you were there on the night. The band was in great spirits for this show and what a set-list!! So many rare gems.Don't forget to look out for all the VIP's and celebrities throughout the show. Also, the lighting and visuals were incredible, ultra vegas style.Enjoy!, I did...

A Must for Any Elton John fan
This is a great keepsake for any Elton John fan -- superior photography, excellent sound quality, and a long list of great tunes. One is pleasantly surprised to hear some of the more obscure, but excellent, songs from early albums, and it only goes to show that Elton continues to be a master artist. Cameo views of current celebrities in the audience were a nice touch. Madison Square Garden is a great venue. If there is a weakness in the presentation, it is the background videos on the big screens -- they did nothing to really enhance the performance, and in some cases were distracting. Bonus tracks are well organized and present a time capsule of Elton's life and works. A real collector's item for anyone who has followed Elton John's career.Only issue was that the commemorative backstage pass was missing -- distributor has contacted consumers to correct the omission.

The best Elton's concert setlist
As my tittle saying, this is the best live choice of songs in one concert. Great birthday athmosphere has made from that something more than just a concert. Also bonuses are good stuff here. I am a longtime Elton John fan, but I am very surprised with this CD/DVD after all those former "official live releases". Elton is still full of energy, no matter how old he is. After seeng him in a concert one have a new reason and taste to live.If You are looking for great piano-pop/rock full of live energy, that's the way you have to go! Amazing art of Elton's balads and his energic rock stuff is something what You have to see and hear more often then sometimes. Hovever - better list of songs during one Elton John show has never been recorded before.

One of the best concerts by Sir Elton
One of the best concerts by Sir Elton. The archival footage is worth the price all on it's own. I just wish this exact version was available on Blu-ray.

sound problems ruin this fantastic package
I eagerly received this in the post the other day, only to find that on both the 5.1 and stereo mixes of the programme the guitar parts are either very soft or in more cases in-audible. For a major studio release from a major artist, this sound mix is a crying shape and Universal needs to institute an exchange program with a balanced, proper audio mix. Please if anyone else has expierenced this problem please post about it.Content otherwise is top-notch, but remember Elton John is 60 years old and has lost a lot of vocal range, showing a very deep throaty voice throughout.
