The shaft is coated in a rust resistant black zinc that feels great in your hands, takes chalk well, and looks like a champ. The knurl depth and pattern is pleasantly mild- great for training day-in and day-out, while still substantial enough to trust in competition. The knurl rings are marked for olympic lifting, but the bar is also well-suited to the power lifts. Finally, the collars are bright zinc plated- this makes a great two-tone look to the bar and also makes the collars resist scuffing and scratching.
