I should've started with the LR model, instead of the MR.Could only do 5 breaths first few times. Now I'm up to 15. On the lowest setting.Sitting up straight helps.

Working well after 3 months
A dual-purpose purchase. 1. I like the idea of improving lung capacity for exercising and working out. 2. I'm 60 and need to lower my blood pressure by about 20 points. I'm on medication for blood pressure making it difficult to say which is leading to my lower numbers, but after 3 months, I can see good improvement in lung strength and capacity. It seems a little over-priced based on the simple design and limited mainly plastic parts, but if it lasts and I can use it over a couple of years it will easily be worth it. I purchased the medium resistance model (I'm in decent shape walking dogs 4-6 a day miles and doing some HIIT elliptical workouts) and have a long way to go in increasing the resistance. Simple to use (if you can breeth you got this).

Working fine
But what's with the bag? It is not in a shape to hold the unit. The bag is square and completely the wrong shape. It is so annoying,

Broken after 9 months of use
I used this device 5 days a week during 9 months. Worked well and I did notice a change, but unfortunately is made of cheap plastic and broke.Update:I contacted the manufacturer and they sent me a new one. Due to this, I am changing the rating from 3* to 4*.

easy to use
As a swimmer and cyclist, I was intrigued about it improving oxygen uptake by exercising the breathing muscles. I had read an article about a research study on this subject using the POWERbreathe. After about 5 weeks of use my subjective impression is that it is improving my breathing. The device is easy to use and keep clean. Since this is exercising breathing muscles you need to do this daily per the instructions. For the casual user, it won’t be effective.

Be Careful About the "Resistence Level" That You Purchase
This Brand/Model comes in three levels of resistance: LR (low resistance), MR (medium resistance,, and HR (high resistance) and some of the listings on Amazon were unclear about this when I shopped. Unless you are a large competitive athlete, you will probably want the low resistance level. The enclosed instructions are adequate for basic use of this device. Your only need the "Breathe Strong Perform Better" book if you want to push this form of conditioning to the max. Here are a few suggestions/warnings not in the instructions. (1) As in any new exercise, start with just moderate exertion and gradually increase the exertion over several weeks.. (2) If you need the nose clips and find them uncomfortable--as I do--just hold your nose closed with one hand. (3) When washing the device twice weekly, I suggest boiling water for two minutes in a covered pot to sterilize it and letting it partially cool an hour (to the point where it is warm but not hot) to minimize the chance of mildew growing within the device. (4) If you find yourself loosing the count to 30, set a count-down timer for three minutes and watch your progress relative to it.Does it work? In five weeks of almost twice daily use, I have progressed from the zero setting to the "one" setting of the Medium Resistance device, which is approximately a 70% increase in force. I distinctly have more "sucking" power when using my Advair Diskus asthma medication. And I seem to have a bit more "wind" when jogging. I plan to try build strength for another month or two, and then switch to a maintenance schedule.
