It's got a number of bass, walleye, and pike notches on it's belt to date. Fenwick quality is very good as expected. I do have one complaint though and it was almost enough to drop this review to 3 stars. When broken into 2 pieces and reeled down for transport, the rod tip is a couple inches below the butt of the handle. This leaves it very vulnerable to breakage. I use my 2 piece strapped to the side of my pack in many cases and this is certainly a major concern. The first eyelet on the handle section of the rod is not close enough to the break point so when you reel it down the sections don't line up. It's an unfortunate oversight to an otherwise standout rod. I'm not going to return or retire it, but I may need to reconsider how I use it. Truthfully, if I was buying again, I probably would have kept looking. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ what a fantastic rod from top to bottom *by B***S on Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2016* Wow, what a fantastic rod from top to bottom. The design compliments my fishing style very well and the cork handles are very durable. Before using the Fenwick HMX, I was constantly missing fish because my old rod just didn't have the backend to set the hook. Not with this bad boy - I've been able to land more quality hooksets and be able to feel the smaller nudges and bites that you normal don't get with a quality​ rod. Excellent price on Amazon, $30 cheaper than the brand name stores, and super quick shipping. Very happy with my new toy. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great price and great rod *by A***N on Reviewed in the United States on April 18, 2014* Since I got my first Fenwick rod I usually only fish with Fenwick rods, I have other rods in the same class (st Croix and a cheaper GLoomis) but I prefer using this brand mainly because of the cheaper HMX series and the HMG series. I use the HMG for crank baits and have two 7' rods in that line. I like using the 6'6" HMX medium action for soft plastics, Carolina rigs, or wacky rigs. They provide outstanding sensitivity to set on bass.
