Seek Professional Help for Identity Issues. Don't Read This Book!
If you're having an identity crisis or issues, seek professional help from a real therapist, psychiatrist or someone from the Stephen's Ministry at your church. Do not bother with this book. This book was chosen for a women's Bible study group and I wanted to pull my hair out during every chapter I forced myself to read. I could not finish this book. I tried, but it's so immature and superficial. Some (but not all) of this might be good for junior high or high school girls, but not adult women. I disagreed with some of the book because it has a very black and white view of things, not taking into account an individual's experience and even misconstrues what the Bible says. For example on page 73, Chapter 6 Theft #4: "I'm focusing on my family" (as a justification to not go to church and connect with people). "If you say to yourself, 'I'm the mom of three young kids! I'll get back in a few years,' you've had your identity stolen." No Author, my identity wasn't stolen. I am still a child of God and mother to my child, thank you very much. As a mother, I am called by God to protect the precious little one He chose to bless me with. I can watch church online, do my own Bible study, and connect with my Christian friends when I am able to.This author clearly was never a single mother of an infant due to circumstances outside of her control. You better believe I'm staying home with my baby to bond with her, keep us safe and healthy by avoiding sickness from other people/kids (this was pre-covid!), and work through the devastation we had to face, and then come back to people. Some of the statements, like that one, in this book are beyond insulting. After facing devastating major life events where your faith is tested and your relationship with God comes out stronger because of the devastation, this book is irrelevant. The discussion questions are disconnected and disjointed, like the author(s) didn't know what to ask, so just slapped something together. I had so much hope for this book and was very disappointed.

Maybe I’m just a crabby person, but the needlessly flowery writing made me wanna throw it across the room. I’m sure there’s good truth in there. People tell me it’s good. For me it’s annoying to waste a few paragraphs on needless details of a story that is trying to make only a minor point.

Excellent Bible study
I have been a Believer of Christ for over 50 years and studied the Bible a lot over that time since I attended Bible honoring churches, but this little Bible study has been a delightful surprise because it is so thoughtfully written that it leads the student to think deeply about the material. The lessons are short and the questions at the end of the lessons are short, but the questions, when honestly thought about, prove to be deep questions because they challenge you to search your heart and to apply the material to yourself. That maks the lessons truly helpful and uplifting as you progress in your walk with the Lord Jesus.

So good!
This book has been so good to read and do as a Bible study with our women at church. Well written and such a great reminder on who we are in Christ.

Convicting, yet affirming
It felt like the authors of this book were speaking directly to me. I have personally dealt with so many of the struggles discussed, but I felt alone in them until reading this book. The reminders of identity truth are so necessary for Christ-followers that I could likely read/listen to this book every day and still get more out of it.

Winsome. Witty. Real Answers.
Identity Theft, edited by Melissa Kruger, is an easy read. Winsome. Witty. And real. You won’t find evangelical jargon in its pages. Though we can’t fully understand the answer to who we are in Christ this side of heaven, this book contains solid answers I’ve never encountered or considered. I devoured it in one day. Highlighter and pencil in hand for notes in the margins. And there are many. I was not familiar with most of the contributors but I found myself looking them up online because what they wrote was so clear and helpful. The Gospel Coalition has provided us with a resource that would be ideal for group study. Ten chapters. 137 pages. Memory verses and study notes at the end of each chapter. I will definitely read it again. —Deb Finnamore (David's wife; joint account)

Love it!
Broken down into subheadings of "Identity Theft", "Identity Truth" and "Identity Transformed", each chapter in this book is an essay written by a different author about what identity in Christ truly is and what it means for each of us. I found each chapter to be well written and very convicting. I look forward to studying this book with a group of ladies as the discussion questions look really interesting and well thought out.
