I found that I could reach inside and pin through the filler, then through the bottom of the duvet cover, and it worked just fine, without having little dimples show on the top from pinning through all three layers. Another way to undo the pin is to put a solid item behind the clear pinhead attached to your items, then push the key down firmly over the pin backer holding them together. The pin should release easily. I've found I can flip my stack of pinned blankets so the clear pinhead sits on top of the bedding on my mattress, then I push the key down firmly over the pin backer. My husband only bought one and you need two because they button together in the center. I used these to attach the mat to the bottom of my husband's mattress pad. It's a split king and the protectors are over sized, I used a dozen to secure it. Im so glad I found these! We also used them to attach our individual heated blankets together.
