Beautiful and Interesting
I got this book as part of my research for a neighborhood project called Pollinator Parkways. I found it very useful in regards to plant selection as well as other needs for butterflies (and moths!), thinking about their lifecycle as a whole. Fascinating and strange little facts puncture the book - carnivorous caterpillars worshiped by ants, for example. Big gorgeous photos, some elementary butterfly classification. I finished it in about 2 days.

Be prepared for more than just pretty flittering butterflies!
The one thing that popped out at me was that if you want to attract butterflies, expect to have your plants eaten first by the worms and caterpillars! Made me take pause whether I really wanted to go to the trouble to attract these beautiful creatures. I also learned that Buddlea has become a noxious weed in the Pacific NW. Too bad such a pretty and beneficial plant has become a problem. This is a beautifully produced book with heavy pages and very nice photography.

Highly recommended, especially as a gift to gardeners or those looking for easy steps to help butterflies.
Not only a beautiful book with some tips on gardening and what kinds of plants to look for, but also a pleasant read. I learned some things about butterflies that I did not know, and found myself enjoying the book throughout instead of just flipping through the pictures. I had been putting tropical milkweed in my garden, but after learning that the butterflies born in summer have much shorter lives, I will add more variety of milkweed to my garden that is more native to North America to promote proper life cycles. Overall a wonderful gift for any gardener or someone who is concerned about conservation of butterfly species.

Great Idea Book
This was a great book for ideas on gardening for butterflies and moths (as well as other pollinators). It gives information on life cycles as well as garden design, plant selection, and butterfly observation. I was pleasantly surprised to find a chapter specifically on gardening for moths. The book also listed a variety of additional resources at the end.

Plant and Butterflies will come!
I am a gardener. This is a great book that gave me a lot of ideas on how be more conscientious about planting for specific wildlife (butterflies) and includes plant lists for my specific region (Pacific Northwest). I have now added/replaced plants to attract butterflies. I have a butterfly feeder, and use the solution ration recommended with the feeder, but have never seen butterflies at the feeder. I do, however, see butterflies at my new butterfly garden! Yeah!!

This is a nicely produced book but it is exclusively about American species ob butterflies and moths and therefore many of the plants are not appropriate for much of UK. The UK enthusiast would do better to look for a book related to our gardens and species - unless of course you want to know how to attract Monarchs into your garden!

Hopefully I will have more butterflies next year!
