Brushing Your Teeth Can Be Fun: And Lots of Other Good Ideas for How to Grow Up Healthy, Strong, and Smart (Munro Leaf Classics)

I wanted to love this....
I bought this as well as 'How to Behave and Why' for my almost 4 year old. Although I 'get' that this is not meant to be a children's book, I had kind of hoped for a more subtle text so that a child would actually get something out of it. Yes, there is good advice on how to get through life so that people like you and want to be around you, but the delivery is almost admonishing. It's not exactly a 'come on it's bedtime, let's a read a story' kind of book. Saying that, I ordered it knowing that it may be a miss...which it was and which is why I returned both.

Not as described.
This item was described as like new. It arrived with a discolored cover and the back cover was tearing away inside.

A best seller for people who don't read
My daughter picked up this book at our dentist's office and asked me to read it to her. Since we were at the dentist's, it seemed like an appropriate thing to do. I was kind of surprised when the information about teeth and cleaning them didn't even start until page 36. We got every inch of health information from drinking milk to using the toilet once a day but very little about teeth brushing and the enjoyment therein.I shudder to think there would be a child who was actually enthusiastic about teeth brushing and having the air snuffed out of their balloon to discover that teeth brushing really isn't fun. It is a duty, and that duty doesn't even start until page 36.If you want an all purpose (outdated) commentary on health in general with no emphasis on fun whatsoever, this is the ultimate book for you and your child. After all, teeth brushing isn't fun, so just suck it up and do it-- like everything else.

Daughter's favorite
I can't explain why my daughter loved this book, but from the age of about 3 until about 6, this and How to Behave and Why were 2 of her favorite and most-requested books.

Helps explain to kids why rules and taking care of yourself is important.
My kids and I enjoyed this book along with How to Behave and Why and Manners can be Fun. There is some outdated information here- I don't believe that drinking at least 3 glasses of milk a day is necessary for good health. My five year old listens when I read this even though it is a bit of a long read and is teaching him something. My seven year old reads it by himself. I think older kids can get more out of this book than younger children. My two year old daughter gets about half-way through the book before wanting to move on. There is a lot to understand but I find my kids using their manners and remembering the lessons in these books after having read them. Reading the books to my kids even reminds me to take care of myself and use my manners!
