I.e fix the larger section to the wall and the Vesa bracket to the monitor?** A: In theory yes however it may not be ideal for wall mounting and there are better solutions available if you do want to wallmount a monitor. **Q: Does it work horizontally? …Have wall gas spring mounts, but distance to the next monitor changes when changing height. Can it offset sideway insted** A: I had the same issue and bought this for the same purpose. I can say IT DOES work horizontally but to a certain extent. The weight of the monitor makes it tilt downward if you push it too far out. I managed to find the 'sweet' spot where it stays put and am sure there might be a way to lock the monitor arm swiveling mechanism. Hope this helps **Q: Could this item be used horizontally to provide left/right adjustment?** A: Yes and no. Adjustment wise yes it would work for left and right but you wouldnt be able to move it left and right over and over again due to the mechanism in the mount.
