The space is 9" x 12". **Q: Can I put a spiral notebook in this instead of that notepad?** A: The portfolio is designed to hold a standard 8 1/2 x 11" writing pad where the cardboard backing on the pad slides into the sleeve on the back cover. So if your spiral notebook opens from the top it should fit fine and you should have enough room to accommodate the spiral binding. If you spiral notebook opens from the side, it should still fit fine as there is ample room in the center of the portfolio to accommodate the spiral binding. However, there wouldn't be any way to hold it in place since the sleeve is designed for pads that are bound at the top. If you don't mind it being loose, it should work fine. **Q: Does it fold in half (180 degrees to the backside)?** A: Just received my order today- it definitely does NOT fold back 180 degrees very easily, but can force it to do so. In doing so- it really stresses the spine- dont think it would hold up and think the bonded leather would wind up separating. Kind of disappointed that it doesn't- as portfolio I am replacing did fold back. I really like the look of the portfolio and for the price point am willing to take a chance on it. **Q: Will it zip closed with a standard letter size file folder inside?** A: Yes. I just tested putting a couple manila letter size file folders in it and it closed just fine when you lay the file on the writing pad. Here are my first impressions of the padfolio when I took it out of the packaging: - it is super sturdy and strong. It will hold it shape for sure! -The stitches are neat and clean. It is very well put together and looks great! -It's very slim - Love, Love, Love the red color. It's not obnoxiously, bright red, instead it is a nice deep red. I had bought a graph paper notepad which I found a joy to write on, and I was hoping that it would fit into this padfolio. Guess what, it did! The pad measured 8.5'' x 11.73'', and was 100 pages thick. It fit into the padfolio without a problem! Which makes me super happy, since I have no intentions on giving up my notepads anytime soon.
