The pan flute or pan pipe is an ancient musical instrument based on the principle of the closed tube, consisting usually of five or more pipes of gradually increasing length (and, at times, girth). The pan flute has long been popular as a folk instrument, and is considered the first mouth organ, ancestor of both the pipe organ and the harmonica. The pipes of the pan flute are typically made from bamboo or giant cane

It's a start.
Not the best quality or sound, but it's something to start with to see if you would even want to play a Pan flute. If you enjoy how it plays, then you move on to a more expensive model with finer attention paid to construction and tonal quality. If you don't, than no big deal, it wasn't a major expense.

Blown Away!
Looked and looked for a quality beginner panflute that wasn't a waste of money! It is large, about 8"x12"Solid, even construction. Mine looks more even at the top than the stock photo.Subtle "do re mi," etc. on backside and tuned wellLovely sound, I am just so impressed.Packed really well, Made in Peru, fair trade... What's not to love?Thank you!!

Zampona (Andean) bamboo pan flute
I found the 13-pipe Andean bamboo pan flute (a fair trade product from Peru) to be a very good starter instrument for those who desire to learn the basics before advancing onward to a more sophisticated Romanian pan flute. The Zampona pan flute, under review, has very good intonation and (with the proper embouchure) sounds every bit like a typical South American pan flute. What I also liked was that the pan flute was tuned to the key of C (do-re-me starting on the note of C). Also, unlike recorders, pan flutes aren’t saliva magnets. Those who play the recorder, know exactly what I mean. What I found lacking, however, were the following: 1) the pan flute didn’t come with its own carrying case, only the plastic wrapper in which it was shipped. 2) most of the pipes were out of alignment, both vertically and horizontally. But this was easily remedied by simply pushing or pulling the bamboo pipes gently to near perfect alignment.I gave the Zampona pan flute four out of five stars.

Why I didn't like the Panflute
The Panflute isn't to be used by a beginner to learn how to play. Some pipes were hard to make a note on.

Sounds like crap.
Out of tune. Sorry. Sounds like crap. the wood is starting to split on some of the pipes. Can't even play "Mary Had a Little Lamb".
