The German "Battle-Cruiser," originally known as the "Large Cruiser," was the final evolution of the Armored Cruiser. The Imperial German Navy built a smaller number of these warships compared to the British Royal Navy, but they were more like the "Fast Battleships" of the Second World War. Their heavy armor and good speed made thema force to be reckoned with. In all battles they were able to sustain a much greater level of damage and survive, with the exception of the LรTZOW, as compared to the British battlecruiser. This book covers the Von der TANN, MOLTKE, GOEBEN, SEYDLITZ, DERFFLINGER, LรTZOW, and HINDENBURG, as a photo album, and as a supplement to the fantastic book by Gary Staff, "German Battlecruisers of World War One." Review: German large Cruisers - I am a great friend of the Imperial German Navy and the large Cruisers belong to my favorite ships. Despite the fact that the photographs are more than 100 years old the pics are large and of a very good quality. ( e.g the Cruiser " von der Tann " at Spithead in 1911 ). The book offers a good overview of these German large Cruisers and I am glad I could get it Review: Thanks for the exceptional packaging

Great booklet! Too bad color photography wasn't available back in 1910.
Great collection of black and white photos! The captions are reasonably informative. You can learn a lot about these ships from the photos and associated captions. Perhaps not surprisingly, there are many photos and discussions of the ships' turrets and heavy guns. In looking at several of the photos, it seems that the German battlecruisers had relatively low freeboards. When steaming at full speed, the bow waves almost came to the tops of the forecastles. I wonder how well these ships would have performed in the heavy seas In the North Atlantic. Page 71 contains a brief tabulation of dimensions, displacements, armament, armor thicknesses, machinery horsepower and speed, crew size, construction cost, commissioning dates, and fate (mostly scrapped after WW I).
