Bought this as an introduction to Oscar Peterson and haven’t been disappointed. The selection is fantastic. I’m not a great fan of live recordings because of the background noise and this set is peculiar in that you can hear Oscar humming along to his own playing which is a bit weird and distracting till you get used to it. But the studio recordings are great in quality and content. A real pleasure to hear one of the jazz greats.This set is excellent value for money.

My collection of jazz recording covers many genres and many artistes. This particular musician (and never forgetting his always-most-able-sidemen/accompanists) set the supreme example of music generally and of jazz and swing in particular when it comes to listening pleasure. To have such guest artistes as Anita O'Day, Messrs Getz, Mulligan etc etc performing along with the Maestro is jazz pleasure assured minim by minim. Cannot isolate any one album or track....that would be too subjective.....but my listening pleasure is assured now that I have this bargain priced yet wonderful collection of music that I could rarely afford to buy when as a young man only the vinyl discs were issued.

OK this duplicates a couple of CDs I already have - but who cares - such a bargain at £1 a CD. This covers a period when I think Oscar was at his spirited best 1956 - 1966.Ray Brown seems to be on all of them, with generally either Ed Thigpen or Herb Ellis.The music swings and the recording quality is good.A particular bonus for me was the Jazz Giants CD with Stan Getz and Gerry Mulligan, and a bouncy rendition of Chocolate Sundae.

Just fabulous - its like hearing the voice of an old friend, and remembering how gifted and wise they were, and much love they gave you.
