Susan Sully's newest book, Houses with Charm is such a delightful look at fresh southern style, with all its history, charm and personality! It is not just another pretty book, even though is it quite a feast for the eyes! Susan's writing style is both narrative and descriptive, so one gets a look into each charming home as well as a feeling for the people who live there. And there are no more charming houses than the ones you find in this book. Each house is reflective of the personal taste and character of its owner, which is the whole basis for Southern charm! And Susan's beautiful photography really brings the interiors (and gardens) to life. This is such a charming little book that I have purchased several and given them as gifts. And all have been very well received!

I gauge a design book by how many pages I dog-ear or scan for an idea book -- this one clocked in at three. I found very little to differentiate the houses from any generic magazine. While it has a subtitle of "simple southern style", if the houses weren't identified by locale, you would be hard-pressed [except for the Savannah and the Louisiana houses] to pick these out as "southern" instead of standard American traditional. It's headed for the charity shop; not worth space on the bookshelves.

I was so excited to receive Susan Scully's new book "Houses with a Charm"I have not been able to put it down. She did an amazing job on the photography. Susan is such a good a good writer you feel her connection to each of the homes. The best thing about this book is how she illustrates the beauty in the simplicity as well as the elegance. I love the dichotomy!! Great Mother's Day presents!!

I loved this book! As a preservationist I constantly fight the commonly held view that living in an early structure means that you always have to live with stodgy old furniture, dusty corners, dark draperies, boring design. I am so thankful to Susan for her artful illustration that living in a landmark can be young, exciting and "charming". Thank you Susan for helping dispel the myth!

It is always fun for me to see beautiful houses around and about the South, and Susan Sully never disappoints.

This is a great design book, I would highly recommend it. These ladies have a beautiful sense of style and put things together in a very elegant way. I own many design books, and this is a great one for a collection and for ideas for decorating.
